O presente trabalho tem por objetivo a análise do capítulo denominado “La forja del escritor profesional: 1900-1930. Los escritores y los nuevos medios massivos” , do crítico, ensaísta e investigador de temáticas da cultura popular Jorge B. Rivera (1935 – 2004), a partir da abordagem referente ao jornalismo cultural – como uma das necessidades da imprensa – e à profissionalização do escritor argentino. O limiar do século XX situou, portanto, o desenvolvimento da indústria cultural e o processo de profissionalização do escritor no campo do jornalismo, ainda que em uma fase cujos direitos autorais não são reconhecidos e a estrutura editorial ainda é incipiente. O público, a existência de novos meios editoriais e jornalísticos, assim como a especialização serão, consequentemente, os fatores decisórios para a configuração e crescimento de um novo tipo de escritor, o profissional. Para tal constatação, por meio do método e perspectiva histórica, esta análise buscou tratar da segmentação e crescimento do público leitor cada vez mais atento aos assuntos de maior profundidade, correspondentes, sobretudo, às seções sobre economia, política e cultura. Dessa forma, o recorte historiográfico delimitado pela obra, demarcando as 3 primeiras décadas do século XX argentino é fecundo para o estudo dos periódicos rioplatenses e para a observação do florescer do jornalismo literário, campo em que os escritores começam a experimentar as novas possibilidades e também os limites da profissionalização.
