Esta investigación busca conocer la relación de la composición química de la madera de Cedrela odorata L. con las propiedades químicas del suelo en un ecosistema forestal húmedo al sur de Ecuador. Para ello se tomó muestras de madera de una rama de 1 m de longitud de 10 a 20 cm de diámetro en cinco individuos diferentes. En los laboratorios de química y suelos. Se realizó los análisis de ceniza, extractivos, lignina y holocelulosa en la madera, así como el análisis del nivel de pH, fosforo y nitrógeno del suelo. Para el análisis estadístico se empleó la prueba no paramétrica de Kruskal-Wallis con el Test de Dunn, y se aplicó una correlación bivariada de Spearman. Los resultados mostraron como componente más abundante a la holocelulosa (62,97 %), seguido de la lignina (30.15 %) y con un menor porcentaje el contenido de extraíbles (5.64) y cenizas (1,24 %). El suelo en donde los individuos crecieron fue muy ácido (pH de 4,70) con un nivel de fosforo medio (33,74 ppm), y un nivel alto de nitrógeno (165,24 ppm). La relación entre las propiedades químicas de la madera y cada una de las propiedades químicas del suelo, dieron como resultado cuatro relaciones, dos positivas (fosforo - lignina con una significancia de 0,1 y nitrógeno - holocelulosa con una significancia = 0,01), y dos negativas (pH - ceniza con una significancia de 0,01 y nitrógeno – lignina con un valor de significancia de 0,04).
