Participaram do estudo oito enfermeiros.

AbstractTaking care of a human being in the death process is a challenge for nurses working at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This study aimed to identify and analyze the nurses' perception on palliative care and management of pain in an Intensive Care Unit and characterize the sample. This quanti-qualitative study was developed at an Intensive Care Unit of Campinas, in the state of São Paulo. Eight nurses participated in the study. Data were collected from June to August 2011 through semi--structured interviews recorded individually. Quantitative data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and qualitative data were analyzed according to the content analysis methodology. The nurses working in the ICU form a heterogeneous team having different time experience as a nurse, different working time in the ICU and in the institution. By analyzing the speeches, five categories were evidenced: palliative care concept, nursing care in palliative care at the ICU, measures to evaluate and control pain, lack of consensus for palliative care and pain control and family integration at the ICU. The difficulty of the nurses in relation to palliative care and pain management highlights the importance of approaching the theme since undergraduate level and of the education activities aimed at a permanent education of the professionals about the theme.
This methodological study aimed to describe the process of translation and cultural adaptation of the Perceived stigmatization Questionnaire (PSQ) and analyze the internal consistency of the items in the step of pre-testing. The PSQ was developed to evaluate the perception of stigmatizing behaviors of burn victims. The adaptation process was carried out from August 2012 to February 2013, comprising the steps outlined in the literature. As part of this process, the pre-test with 30 adult burn victims was held. All participants at this step reported to understand the instrument items and the scale of responses. There were no suggestions or changes in the tested version. The value of Cronbach’s alpha at pre-test was 0.87. The contribution of this study is to describe the operation of each of the steps of this methodological process and show the internal consistency of the items in the pre-test.
The objective of this study was to evaluate interobserver reliability and the concurrent criterion validity of the adapted version of the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP) Skin Tear Classification System to Brazilian Portuguese. For the evaluation of interobserver reliability using the photograph database, 36 nurses classified 30 skin tears (STs) into three groups, according to its definitions (adapted version). For the evaluation through clinical application, 23 nurses classified 12 STs present in 8 thoracic and cardiovascular postoperative patients at a tertiary hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil. For the data collection of patients, an enterostomal therapist nurse classified the ST found by simultaneously using the adapted ISTAP version and the Skin Tear Audit Research (STAR) Classification System to test the concurrent criterion validity. The average of 17.83 correct answers (SD = 5.03) resulted from 1080 photograph observations, with Fleiss κ = 0.279 (reasonable concordance level). The interobserver reliability in the clinical application resulted in a global correct answer percentage of 76.7% in 85 observations. The concurrent criterion validity was attested by the total correlation (r = 1) between ISTAP and STAR. The ISTAP classification for ST is a reliable instrument and also valid in Brazil, making it another option to be used in clinical practice.
