Incorporating asexual genera in a natural classification system and proposing one name for pleomorphic genera are important topics in the current era of mycology. Recently, several polyphyletic genera have been restricted to a single family, linked with a single sexual morph or spilt into several unrelated genera. Thus, updating existing data bases and check lists is essential to stay abreast of these recent advanes. In this paper, we update the existing outline of asexual genera and provide taxonomic notes for asexual genera which have been introduced since 2012. Approximately, 320 genera have been reported or linked with a sexual morph, but most genera lack sexual morphs.
Two coelomycetous taxa with muriform conidia were collected from Italy, and subjected to morpho-molecular taxonomic analyses. A mega blast search showed that the new taxa had a close relationship with Pseudocamarosporium. Maximum-likelihood and Bayesian analyses of combined LSU, SSU and ITS sequence data also showed that these strains reside in Didymosphaeriaceae and cluster with Pseudocamarosporium sensu stricto. Following detailed morphological and molecular analyses, these are introduced as new species in Pseudocamarosporium. The new taxa are illustrated and compared with other known species in the genus.
Acquiring updated information of fungi is one of the challenges faced by mycologists. This study is a continuation of Wijayawardene et al. (2017Wijayawardene et al. ( , 2018 and provides notes (generic name, classification, number of species, typification details, life mode, distribution, references) for each genus of Ascomycota described mainly during the period January to June 2018.
