The current study is meant to be a contribution to the promotion and development of an important geographical area for the municipality of Oradea, namely the rural proximity area that is part of the Oradea Metropolitan Area (OMA). The magnitude of the tourism phenomenon, as a sustainable resource could contribute to a functional reconsideration of this space that can bring about an overall territorial development, based on economic competitiveness, sustainable development, social cohesion or the development of new technologies. In this sense, it is not possible to conceive the development of an area from a tourist viewpoint without the existence of a suitable infrastructure (tourist, technical, transport), because it can influence, depending on the endowment degree and updated technology, the volume and structure of the tourist traffic. Thus, the main infrastructure components were identified, quantified and analyzed, each TAU being granted a certain score according to the evaluation methodology, based on which a certain hierarchy and highlighting of the main dysfunctions could be achieved. In conclusion, it was found that the existing tourist and technical infrastructure is satisfactory, but disproportionately distributed, a situation somewhat accountable due of the existence of the two spas, Băile Felix and Băile 1 Mai.
The link between the spread of diseases and the geographical environment has been made by scientists since a long time. Every element has an entire spectrum of possible effects on a community. One of the main reasons of studying the environment is the understanding of the way the environment conditions influence the human health and the identification of the modalities through which the negative effects of some external factors on this universal good of the society can be reduced. The environmental factors are in a permanent relationship with the human body and influence significantly the health status. Among these factors, the city is present as a social structure and it occurs more strikingly in the public health, in the mental and conceptual environment of humans. In many countries, the appearance of urban explosion induced major problems in the organization of space and quality of life. Geography, with the help of its medical branch and through the way of mental and conceptual approaching, represents an interdisciplinary and complex way to deal with the necessity of explaining the human health damage due to the excess or deficiency of certain chemicals or to some complex environmental problems. In the beginning of the 21st century, geographical environment and global health are issues of major concern. Environmental problems are more and more taken into account at a global scale and promoting understanding of some of the planetary problems and adopting favorable behaviors concerning the environment represent simultaneously the approach of the addressed theme. The complex connections between the elements of the geographical environment, urban environment in relation to medical geography and environmental psychology are analyzed under the form of case studies. The pluridisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity represent the methodological basis applied to the relationship between the geographical environment and global health.
Metropolitan regions/areas are NUTS 3 regions or a combination of NUTS 3 regions which represent all agglomerations of at least 250,000 inhabitants (Eurostat, 2021). Oradea Metropolitan Area (NUTS3ID RO111) was established in 9th of May 2005 and has a total number of 251.570 inhabitants. The purpose of the association is to stimulate and support the growth and prosperity of the area, focused on the continuous increase of the quality of life. Besides the economic boost, OMA emerged from the need for space and leisure expressed by the core urbanites and although the periurban area is teeming with valuable cultural resources, the latter being the focus of the current study, they are little known by many of the Oradea residents. In this purpose the cultural attractions of the rural OMA were inventoried, analysed and stored in an online open-access database so that tourists can enjoy them and entrepreneurs in tourism can use them as focal points for further tourist infrastructure development. The analysis highlighted the OMA periurban area with the highest cultural attractions’ potential based on the National Methodology regarding the evaluation of the tourist potential in the basic administrative-territorial units.
