Introduction. Up to 23% of all cylinder blocks of used engines D-245 and D-260 have worn out sockets for the liner sleeve collar in-depth and shall be discarded. The aim of the study was to increase the durability of the cylinder blocks of the mentioned above engines by processing the sockets in the repair size with the subsequent installation of adjusting washers. Materials and Methods. In the article, the method of dimensional analysis was used to solve the problems. Based on the data presented in the technical documentation, the dimension chains were calculated when the piston moves to the lower and upper dead center. Results. The conducted studies of dimension chains found that when the piston moves to the lower and upper dead center with gaps in the joints corresponding to the new units, the distance between the bottom of the piston and the head of the unit can be from 0.488 to 1.592 mm, and with gaps corresponding to the permissible during operation – from ‒0.035 to 1.15 mm. According to the results of calculations, the depth of the socket under the liner collar in the boring process should be within 9,4+0,08+0,04 mm, i.e. in the range of 9.44...9.48 mm. Discussion and Conclusion. As a result of the study, the dimensional analysis found that the permissible value for milling the block stopping plane is 0.35 mm, and the depth of the liner collar when installing the adjusting washer with a thickness of 0.4 mm shall be from 9.45 to 9.47 mm.
Introduction. Operational methods to monitor the power indicators of engines for continuous diagnosis of their technical condition are of particular interest for creating optimal operating conditions of motor and tractor machinery. The methods are characterized by the mechanical efficiency, determined in the conditions of repair shops with the use of complex braking devices. Aim of the Article. To present the results of research on the development of an operational method for determining the mechanical efficiency of diesel engines with batteryoperated electronically controlled fuel supply systems. Materials and Methods. The Bashkir State Agrarian University proposed and successfully tested an operational method for assessing the technical condition of diesel engines with direct-acting fuel equipment on their mechanical efficiency, which is determined by the performance of their fuel equipment adjusted using the diesel itself as an adjusting stand. The possibility of using the proposed method for diesel engines with storage fuel systems was investigated. Results. The accuracy of determining the mechanical efficiency of diesel engines by electronically controlled fuel systems of battery type can be affected by the features of their work – the correction of cyclic feeds by the electronic engine control unit depending on the technical condition of the cylinders and high fuel injection pressure. To test this hypothesis, there were carried out studies on a four-cylinder D4EA 2.0 engine of a Hyundai Tuscon car with a Common Rail type storage fuel system. The engine fuel supply system was supplemented with an electronic unit integrated between the injector and the standard engine control unit, which interrupted the transmission line of the control signal to the injector according to a given algorithm without the standard unit transition to emergency mode. It has been found that the proposed method can successfully determine the technical condition of the engine as a whole and of its individual cylinders (alternating disabled and working cylinders). Discussion and Conclusion. The proposed operational method for determining the mechanical efficiency can be successfully used for diesel engines with accumulator electronically controlled fuel supply systems. At the same time, an increase in the cyclic supply by the electronic control unit of the engine fuel supply system reduces the mechanical efficiency slightly, and it can be taken into account only in special cases.
Introduction. Currently, there are no widely available technologies and equipment available at service stations and repair facilities to accurately assess the technical condition of Common Rail battery fuel supply system injectors. The methods implemented in practice mainly give a generalized assessment of the nozzle performance without identifying a specific defect, which entails an unjustified replacement of still working parts of electrically controlled injectors. The purpose of this article is to familiarize a wide range of specialists with a new non-slip test method for injectors with electronic control based on the evaluation of their fuel supply characteristics, which allows identifying specific malfunctions of the nozzle during the procedure of diagnostic without disassembling. Materials and Methods. The study is based on a systematic analysis of the factory methods for testing injectors, a review of modern scientific publications, the use of computer simulation in specialized programs, and experimental testing of the obtained results. Results. A method for testing and evaluating the technical condition of diesel injectors based on the fuel supply characteristics has been developed and tested that can significantly increase the information content of the diagnostic and reduce the overall labor intensity of repairing electronically controlled injectors by 24%. Discussion and Conclusion. The authors have developed and tested a measurement module and a test procedure for diesel injectors with the ability to assess the technical condition of their parts, which allows identifying and eliminating specific malfunctions of injectors without disassembling them and avoid unjustified replacement of serviceable elements during repair. The results of the study have been implemented in the Bosch Diesel Service fuel equipment repair center of Bashdiesel LLC.
Analysis of technical condition of diesels with accumulator Common Rail power supply system shows that the largest share of fuel equipment failures is associated with malfunction of high-pressure fuel injectors. The electronic engine control unit generates commands for biphasic fuel injection from each injector. Due to the wear of the injector elements, there is an uneven fuel supply to the engine cylinders and, as a rule, deterioration of its operation. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in studying the process of adjusting the fuel supply in the Common Rail system when diagnosing the engine of a Ford Transit vehicle. (Materials and methods) The most relevant method of commissioning Common Rail fuel system injectors are various service procedures, such as the Low Injection Training procedure. Authors used a scanner and appropriate software to estimate total fuel delivery at idle mode. Authors performed the study on a 2.4 liter Duratorq diesel engine. (Results and discussion) The article presents the engine parameters before and after adjustment (Small Injection Procedure). Before adjustment, two cylinders of the engine received more fuel than the other cylinders. It manifests in an increase in crankshaft speed. After the adjustment, the fuel supply to the cylinders was equalized, resulting in an equalization of crankshaft RPM, reduced vibration and noise. (Conclusions) The study showed that fuel adjustment and Low Injection Training should be a must for engine diagnostics. Correction is effective if the value of injection discrepancy is no more than 5 mg/stroke.
