La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar las ventajas interactivas del entorno moodle para la formación digital del cuerpo docente de la modalidad técnica de un Instituto Politécnico ubicado en Santiago de los Caballeros de la República Dominicana, a través del desarrollo de un ambiente de aprendizaje virtual en la plataforma Moodle. La metodología consistió en un estudio de casos, con base en el paradigma cualitativo fundamentado en el constructivismo social de la Educación. Los participantes fueron 10 docentes de la citada institución quienes participaron en las tres fases del proyecto: 1) Participación en el grupo de discusión, 2) Implementación del curso diseñado en la plataforma virtual Moodle y 3) Evaluación de las características del ambiente virtual. Se emplearon como técnicas de recolección de información la entrevista a través de preguntas problematizadoras introducidas en el grupo focal y una rúbrica de evaluación aplicada posterior al programa. Los resultados indican que la principal necesidad detectada es la capacitación de los docentes en el uso de las tecnologías de la información y comunicación (TIC) para educación y específicamente, para la aplicación de ambientes educativos virtuales. Por otro lado, el diseño instruccional mediado por la interacción con la plataforma Moodle fue valorado positivamente por los docentes, destacando su efectividad y pertinencia para el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje.
