The Romanian registry of HCM illustrates patient characteristics at a national level as well as the gaps in management which need improvement - accessibility to high-end diagnostic tests and invasive methods of treatment.
The reconstruction of the breast after an oncological mastectomy is a challenge for the plastic surgeons. During the dissection of one fresh, female cadaver, age 63, a free superior gluteal flap was taken from the gluteal region, using loupe magnification. The dissection preparations were photographed with a high definition camera. The harvesting of the superior gluteal musculocutaneous fat-pad flap and the closure of the donor area in layers advantages and disadvantages of using the superior gluteal flap in the reconstruction of the amputated breast.
Nasal amputation is a disabling aesthetical and functional deformity, which raised the need for nasal reconstruction. It is very important to use a well-established plastic reconstruction technique because of its importance in the aesthetic of the face. Every structure is important and all the missing layers of the nose must be reconstructed. In our case a three-stage procedure was done. First stage: Reconstruction of the cover using a paramedian forehead flap, harvesting a strut graft to recreate a columella to support the height of the nasal tip. Second stage: Re-elevation of the flap, thinning of the layers, and reconstruction of the framework. Third stage: Division of the pedicle. This type of nasal reconstruction had both good and stable results aesthetically and functionally.
Rattlesnake envenomation incidence and its severity remain largely misunderstood in Europe. The evolution of cases reported in the few countries, where these accidents are correctly reported, proves to be unpredictable. Rattlesnake venom is mainly hemotoxic, affecting mainly the blood vessels, blood cells and the heart. The venom contains zinc metalloproteinases, cytotoxins and myotoxins. As an additional effect, the necrosis of skeleton muscles is produced by the venom through secondary ischemia and reduced perfusion. We will present the case of a 30-year-old lady, snake and tarantula breeder from Bucharest, presented at the emergency department on the 15Th of March 2015 after one of her pets, a diamondback rattlesnake had bitten her wrist.
