En el sur de Tamaulipas, México, el cultivo de la soya [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] se practica en condiciones de temporal durante el ciclo primavera-verano desde hace 40 años. La superficie sembrada con soya ha variado entre 90 mil y 124 mil hectáreas en los últimos años, con rendimientos promedio que fluctúan de 0.82 a 1.80 t ha-1 (SIAP, 2018), lo cual depende del nivel tecnológico que aplican los productores y de las condiciones climatológicas prevalecientes durante el ciclo del cultivo. Los rendimientos de grano se ven limitados por la falta de humedad durante la etapa reproductiva de la soya y por la sensibilidad de las variedades al fotoperiodo corto, principalmente cuando la fecha de siembra se retrasa debido a deficiencias hídricas. Por lo anterior, el enfoque del mejoramiento genético de la soya en el trópico mexicano se centra en la generación de genotipos con 45 días a floración como mínimo, para no mermar el rendimiento, y que el periodo entre las etapas fenológicas R4 (vaina completa) y R7 (inicio de madurez fisiológica), según el perfil de Fehr y Caviness (1977), coincida con la época de mayor probabilidad de lluvias, sin dejar de considerar las características de alta productividad, baja sensibilidad al fotoperiodo corto, tolerancia a sequía, enfermedades foliares más comunes y contenido de proteína y aceite en la semilla.
Se evaluaron cinco líneas experimentales (H15-0625, H15-0249, H14-0307, H14-0496 y H10-0556) y dos variedades comerciales (Huasteca 200 y Huasteca 300) de soya [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] a 77, 91 y 105 días después de la siembra (DDS). Las variables fueron tasa de crecimiento del cultivo (TCC), materia seca total (MST), proteína cruda (PC), nutrientes digestibles totales (NDT) y energía metabolizable (EM). Se utilizó un diseño completamente al azar con cuatro repeticiones (Tukey; ɑ=0.05). Las líneas H10-0556 y H14-0496, presentaron las mayores (p<0.05) TCC, las cuales en promedio fueron de 100, 132 y 123 kg ha-1 d-1; mientras que H10-0556 y H14-0496 presentaron mayor (p<0.05) rendimiento de MST, 7.689, 11.981 y 12.921 t ha-1, a los 77, 91 y 105 DDS, respectivamente. No se observaron cambios (p>0.05) en el contenido de PC entre los diferentes muestreos, el cual en promedio fue de 171 g kg-1. Los materiales H14-0496, H15-0625 y Huasteca 300 presentaron mayor (p<0.05) NDT, en promedio 580, 654 y 708 g kg-1 a los 77, 91 y 105 DDS, respectivamente. La mayor EM la presentaron H14-0496, H15-0625 y Huasteca 300, 2.57 Mcal kg-1 en promedio, a los 105 DDS. De los materiales evaluados, las líneas experimentales H10-0556, H14-0307 y H14-0496, presentaron el mejor potencial forrajero que las variedades comerciales, esto debido al mayor rendimiento de forraje y valor nutritivo. Dichas líneas, podrían cosecharse entre 91 y 105 DDS, ya que mantienen el valor nutritivo del forraje.
La soya [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] posee bajos niveles de diversidad genética en comparación con otras especies autógamas. Por lo anterior y con el fin de determinar si existe la necesidad de introducir nuevo germoplasma para generar nuevas variedades, se evaluó la diversidad genética de 24 líneas elite de soya para el trópico húmedo de México y nueve introducciones de otros países, mediante marcadores moleculares tipo AFLP. Los resultados revelaron que las líneas e introducciones no se agruparon de acuerdo a su origen geográfico, además de indicar un alto nivel de polimorfismos (60 %). Los genotipos de México son altamente similares a los de Brasil. El índice dediversidad genética fue bajo (31 %), y semejante a los reportados en otros estudios con RFLP y RAPD. Aunque la muestra de genotipos no representó a la totalidad del germoplasma de soya cultivada en el trópico húmedo de México, se considera que existe suficiente diversidad genética para generar nuevas variedades, ya que tres líneas mexicanas fueron más divergentes a nivel molecular que los materiales considerados filogenéticamente distintos de otros países (basados en características morfológicas y fisiológicas) utilizados como testigos.
