The Stanley lattice, Tamari lattice and Kreweras lattice are three remarkable orders defined on the set of Catalan objects of a given size. These lattices are ordered by inclusion: the Stanley lattice is an extension of the Tamari lattice which is an extension of the Kreweras lattice. The Stanley order can be defined on the set of Dyck paths of size n as the relation of being above. Hence, intervals in the Stanley lattice are pairs of non-crossing Dyck paths. In a previous article, the second author defined a bijection Φ between pairs of non-crossing Dyck paths and the realizers of triangulations (or Schnyder woods). We give a simpler description of the bijection Φ. Then, we study the restriction of Φ to Tamari and Kreweras intervals. We prove that Φ induces a bijection between Tamari intervals and minimal realizers. This gives a bijection between Tamari intervals and triangulations. We also prove that Φ induces a bijection between Kreweras intervals and the (unique) realizers of stack triangulations. Thus, Φ induces a bijection between Kreweras intervals and stack triangulations which are known to be in bijection with ternary trees.
Abstract. Θ k -graphs are geometric graphs that appear in the context of graph navigation. The shortest-path metric of these graphs is known to approximate the Euclidean complete graph up to a factor depending on the cone number k and the dimension of the space. TD-Delaunay graphs, a.k.a. triangular-distance Delaunay triangulations, introduced by Chew, have been shown to be plane 2-spanners of the 2D Euclidean complete graph, i.e., the distance in the TD-Delaunay graph between any two points is no more than twice the distance in the plane. Orthogonal surfaces are geometric objects defined from independent sets of points of the Euclidean space. Orthogonal surfaces are well studied in combinatorics (orders, integer programming) and in algebra. From orthogonal surfaces, geometric graphs, called geodesic embeddings can be built. In this paper, we introduce a specific subgraph of the Θ6-graph defined in the 2D Euclidean space, namely the half-Θ6-graph, composed of the evencone edges of the Θ6-graph. Our main contribution is to show that these graphs are exactly the TD-Delaunay graphs, and are strongly connected to the geodesic embeddings of orthogonal surfaces of coplanar points in the 3D Euclidean space. Using these new bridges between these three fields, we establish:-Every Θ6-graph is the union of two spanning TD-Delaunay graphs.In particular, Θ6-graphs are 2-spanners of the Euclidean graph, and the bound of 2 on the stretch factor is the best possible. It was not known that Θ6-graphs are t-spanners for some constant t, and Θ7-graphs were only known to be t-spanners for t ≈ 7.562. -Every plane triangulation is TD-Delaunay realizable, i.e., every combinatorial plane graph for which all its interior faces are triangles is the TD-Delaunay graph of some point set in the plane. Such realizability property does not hold for classical Delaunay triangulations.
We use Schnyder woods of 3-connected planar graphs to produce convex straight line drawings on a grid of size (n − 2 − ∆) × (n − 2 − ∆). The parameter ∆ ≥ 0 depends on the Schnyder wood used for the drawing. This parameter is in the range 0The algorithm is a refinement of the face-counting-algorithm, thus, in particular, the size of the grid is at most (f − 2) × (f − 2).The above bound on the grid size simultaneously matches or improves all previously known bounds for convex drawings, in particular Schnyder's and the recent Zhang and He bound for triangulations and the Chrobak and Kant bound for 3-connected planar graphs. Abstract. The family of well-orderly maps is a family of planar maps with the property that every connected planar graph has at least one plane embedding which is a well-orderly map. We show that the number of well-orderly maps with n nodes is at most 2 αn+O(log n) , where α ≈ 4.91. A direct consequence of this is a new upper bound on the number p(n) of unlabeled planar graphs with n nodes, log 2 p(n) 4.91n. The result is then used to show that asymptotically almost all (labeled or unlabeled), (connected or not) planar graphs with n nodes have between 1.85n and 2.44n edges. Finally we obtain as an outcome of our combinatorial analysis an explicit linear time encoding algorithm for unlabeled planar graphs using, in the worst-case, a rate of 4.91 bits per node and of 2.82 bits per edge.
In this paper, we consider the problem of scheduling a special kind of mixed data-parallel applications arising in the context of continuous integration. Continuous integration (CI) is a software engineering technique, which consists in rebuilding and testing interdependent software components as soon as developers modify them. The CI tool is able to provide quick feedback to the developers, which allows them to fix the bug soon after it has been introduced. The CI process can be described as a DAG where nodes represent package build tasks, and edges represent dependencies among these packages; build tasks themselves can in turn be run in parallel. Thus, CI can be viewed as a mixed data-parallel application. A crucial point for a successful CI process is its ability to provide quick feedback. Thus, makespan minimization is the main goal. Our contribution is twofold. First we provide and analyze a large dataset corresponding to a build DAG. Second, we compare the performance of several scheduling heuristics on this dataset.
