Box 246 , Russia ABSTRACT The wor k of two types of opti cal fi ber gauges on the basi s of polymeric light guides was developed arid investigated for registration of x,tdiagrams of shock waves movement in solids, liquids and free surfaces of moving bodies.End-type gauges ar e pr oposed for sel f -I umi nous phenomena r egi st ration. For investigating phenomena in the low-pressure range we used loop gauges. The results of investigations of the gauges work in gas-dynainical experiments are presented.

Rd i abi. 1 1 ty , effici ency and accur acy of the r ecei ved I nfor rnati on are determined, to a large extent, by the level of knowledge of processes taking place during the initial response of gauges and their behaviors in experimental conditions. Some results of development and i nvesti gati on of several types of optical fiber gauges, used for diagnostics of shock -wave processes, are presented here. I n par ticul ar, time character I sti cs of opti cal si. grial s and the areas of the main types of gauges utilization are determined. On the basis of investigations of gauges interaction wi th flying plates minimal di stances between gauges, excl udi ng thei r mutual I nfl uence, are stipulated.
