THE EFFECT OF XYLITOL IN SOLID DISPERSION SYSTEM ON THE DISSOLUTION OF IBUPROFEN SUPPOSITORIES AbstractAccording to Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS), ibuprofen belongs to BCS class II which is a drug with poor water solubility and high permeability. Solid dispersion technique is widely used to increase the solubility a drug with poor water solubility. The aim of this research is to study the influence of the amount of xylitol on the solubility of ibuprofen by the formation of solid dispersion in cocoa butter-based suppositories. Solid dispersions of ibuprofen were prepared by melting method using pure ibuprofen and ibuprofen:xylitol in the ratio 1:1 and 1:2. Three formulas of suppositories were prepared using pure ibuprofen and solid dispersion of ibuprofen:xylitol in the ratio 1:1 and 1:2. The results of X-ray diffraction showed a decrease in intensity of diffraction pattern of solid dispersion compared to pure ibuprofen which indicated a decrease of degree of crystallinity. The dissolution test results showed that there was an increase in the amount of ibuprofen dissolved during 120 minutes and dissolution efficiency in 120 minutes from suppositories containing solid dispersion of ibuprofen. Statistical analysis by oneway Anova showed a significant increase in percentage of dissolution ...
