Nghiên cứu sử dụng nền tảng Google Earth Engine (GEE) kết hợp với ảnh vệ tinh Sentiel-2, để đánh giá mất rừng do chuyển sang sản xuất nông nghiệp giai đoạn 2016-2021 trên địa bàn huyện Đăk Glong, tỉnh Đăk Nông, Việt Nam. Toàn bộ 21 cảnh ảnh Sentinel-2 có tỉ lệ mây <20% đã được sử dụng. Bằng việc sử dụng chỉ số thực vật NDVI để xác định ngưỡng của các lớp phủ rừng, đất canh tác nông nghiệp, khu vực dân cư và mặt nước. Kết quả đã phân loại các đối tượng lớp phủ thành 4 trạng thái gồm: rừng, nông nghiệp, dân cư và mặt nước ở cả hai thời điểm 2021 và 2016. Bản đồ phân loại các lớp phủ đã được kiểm chứng bằng phương pháp định tính thông qua ảnh Google Earth (GE) kết hợp dữ liệu điều tra thực địa và phương pháp kiểm chứng bằng thống kê với có độ chính xác tổng thể 89,6, Kappa: 0,81. Bài báo cũng khẳng định hiệu quả của phương pháp sử dụng chỉ số NDVI để phân loại tự động các trạng thái lớp phủ bằng công nghệ GEE cho phép rút ngắn quá trình xử lý ảnh và kiểm chứng kết quả sau phân loại đồng thời cho kết quả phân loại nhanh chóng và khách quan. Kết quả cho thấy, giai đoạn 2016-2021 khu vực nghiên cứu có khoảng 14.827,58 ha rừng đã bị chuyển đổi sang đất sản xuất nông nghiệp..
Bài báo đánh giá thực trạng và nguyên nhân suy giảm diện tích rừng khộp ở Tây Nguyên. Số liệu nghiên cứu được điều tra trên 202 ô tiêu chuẩn và thông qua phỏng vấn 150 người đại diện các cơ quan quản lý về lâm nghiệp, cộng đồng và hộ gia đình ở địa phương; 20 cuộc thảo luận nhóm với các đơn vị chủ rừng. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy, vùng Tây Nguyên có 305.651,69 ha rừng khộp, trong đó: rừng đặc dụng 101.129,58 ha, chiếm 33,09%; rừng phòng hộ 39.149,83 ha, chiếm 12,81% và rừng sản xuất là 165.372,28 ha, chiếm 54,10%. Giai đoạn 2010 – 2015, diện tích rừng khộp giảm 91.647,64 ha (bình quân 18.329 ha/năm) và giai đoạn 2015-2020, diện tích rừng khộp giảm 49.571,83 (bình quân 9.914 ha/năm). Các trạng thái rừng khộp giàu và trung bình có mật độ tương đối đồng đều, dao động từ 400 – 600 cây/ha, biến động về đường kính lớn (> 10%) chứng tỏ rừng có nhiều tầng tán. Các trạng thái rừng khộp nghèo và phục hồi có biến động về đường kính nhỏ (< 5%) chứng tỏ đây chủ yếu là rừng non, các cây gỗ lớn đã bị khai thác, cần có các biện pháp đề xuất để phục hồi và phát triển. Nguyên nhân suy giảm diện tích rừng khộp được xác định bao gồm: Chuyển và xâm lấn rừng và đất rừng khộp sang sản xuất nông nghiệp; Chuyển rừng khộp nghèo sang trồng rừng nguyên liệu, Cao su; Ảnh hưởng của khai thác đến suy thoái rừng khộp. Trên cơ sở đánh giá thực trạng và nguyên nhân suy giảm diện tích rừng khộp, nghiên cứu đã đề xuất một số giải pháp bảo vệ, khôi phục và phát triển rừng khộp ở Tây Nguyên.
Nghiên cứu này sử dụng nền tảng Google Earth Engine (GEE) để thử nghiệm và phân loại tự động rừng ngập mặn cho khu vực Quảng Yên, tỉnh Quảng Ninh. Toàn bộ tư liệu ảnh vệ tinh Radar Sentinel-1 và quang học Sentinel-2 có tỉ lệ mây nhỏ hơn 20% trong năm 2020 của khu vực nghiên cứu đã được sử dụng. Áp dụng hai phương pháp phân loại rừng ngập mặn gồm: (1) sử dụng ngưỡng phân loại rừng ngập mặn từ giá trị tán xạ ngược VH trên ảnh Radar Sentinel-1 và ngưỡng chỉ số rừng ngập mặn CMRI (Combine Mangrove Recognition Index) trên ảnh quang học Sentinel-2; (2) phương pháp rừng ngẫu nhiên (Random Forest - RF) trên cả hai loại tư liệu. Kết quả phân loại rừng ngập mặn của cả hai phương pháp đều có độ chính xác cao. Dữ liệu quang học Sentinel-2 có sự ổn định hơn, khi kết quả đánh giá độ chính xác tổng thể của hai phương pháp sử dụng ngưỡng chỉ số CMRI và phương pháp rừng ngẫu nhiên (Random Forest) lần lượt là 95,9%, (Kappa = 0,95) và 98% (Kappa = 0,97). Dữ liệu SAR Sentinel-1 có độ ổn định thấp hơn với độ chính xác tổng thể 96,2% (Kappa = 0,95) bằng phương pháp ngưỡng giá trị tán xạ ngược VH và 91,4% (Kappa =0,85) bằng phương pháp rừng ngẫu nhiên. Các kết quả tính diện tích rừng ngập mặn khu vực nghiên cứu cho thấy, dữ liệu Sentinel-2 có sự chênh lệch về diện tích giữa hai phương pháp ít hơn (khoảng 143 ha), trong khi dữ liệu SAR Sentinel-1 có sự chênh lệch lớn hơn (khoảng 287 ha).
