This study compares the job satisfaction and turnover intentions of private-and public-sector employees in Serbia. Questionnaires were used to collect data from employees of various private enterprises and one public organization. The results show that the general job satisfaction and turnover intentions of public employees are different from those of private employees'. Public employees in Serbia have higher extrinsic job satisfaction and lower turnover intentions compared to their counterparts in the private sector. This satisfaction derived from interpersonal relationship, work organization and information within the organization. The reasons for this result can be fostering fundamental values national culture. Classifying the order culture with a high degree of collectivism, not surprising Serbian workers need to close and harmonious relationships with colleagues, especially need for information within the organization which reducing their uncertainty, insecurity and foster feelings of identification with the organization.
In this paper, a research was conducted on gender differences in job satisfaction among employees in Serbia. Starting from the paradox that women are more satisfied with work despite the more unequal position on the labor market, it was determined that there are no significant gender differences. A quantitative research study was conducted through the structure of online surveys using a technical random sample. If we can talk about the complete neutrality of job satisfaction, it has been shown that women are satisfied with how much they perceive the support of managers through open and constructive communication. Men are satisfied with their work if the organization provides conditions for adequate evaluation of their agreement on the creation of organizational acts (autonomy in work and promotional opportunities), or if their needs for self-realization and self-realization are met.
Abstract:This paper presents the research results of job satisfaction of women and men in state enterprises in Serbia. The starting hypothesis presents the paradoxical gender disparity according to which women show greater level of job satisfaction than their male counterparts despite unequal position in the labor market. Research was conducted in several stateowned enterprises on a sample of 423 women and 316 men in January 2014. The questionnaire comprised 13 questions about satisfaction with various job aspects, including the overall job satisfaction. The results of this study do not support the idea of the paradox of satisfied female workers, as women in the public sector in Serbia are less satisfied with all job aspects, including the overall job satisfaction compared to their male counterparts. The results also indicate a statistically significant difference between the observed groups regarding the satisfaction with certain aspects of job (direct collaboration with colleagues, deadline for job assignments, support of superiors, brainstorming and presenting ideas to superiors, interpersonal relationships, work organization and briefing and information sharing in an organization).Ključne reči: zadovoljstvo poslom, paradoks u zadovoljstvu žena poslom, rodna neravnopravnost, žene na tržištu rada.
