Nelson Kagan (SM'12) received the Dipl. Ing. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the Polytechnic School, University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil, in 1982 and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of London, London, U.K., in 1993.Currently, he is a Full Professor at Polytechnic School, University of São Paulo, since 1983. His research interests are utility planning systems, with artificial-intelligence applications, optimization, and multiple goals (applied to power quality and operation planning, among others) and uncertainty (probabilistic and possibilistic models) associated with these topics.
