El objetivo principal de esta investigación fue contribuir al proceso de formación de estudiantes como sujetos políticos a través de la enseñanza del asunto socio-científico de la fracturación hidráulica. Fue una investigación cualitativa, se diseñó una unidad didáctica de actividades y se realizó un grupo focal con dos estudiantes del programa de licenciatura en Matemáticas y Física de la Universidad del Valle. Para la toma de datos se utilizaron cuestionarios y la grabación de un encuentro virtual entre los estudiantes y el investigador. En el análisis se triangularon el encuentro virtual, el diseño y las ideas previas. Las conclusiones sugieren que la utilización de este asunto sociocientífico en la enseñanza de la física puede permitir al estudiante contextualizar la disciplina y destacan el valor de la construcción colectiva entre pares.
