Este trabalho aborda dois tópicos que envolvem matemática discreta aplicada à área de comunicações. O primeiro deles é a construção de reticulados utilizando álgebras de divisão associadas aos quatérnios e octônios. Reticulados vem sendo utilizados para codificação de sinais visando tanto a confiabilidade como a segurança da informação a ser transmitida. Nas construções aqui apresentadas analisamos particularmente a variação da densidade dos reticulados em função de parâmetros das álgebras e dos corpos de números envolvidos. O segundo tópico é a proposição de dois métodos numéricos que buscam a solução de um sistema de equações lineares em que informações complementares estão armazenadas em diferentes nós de uma rede distribuída. São analisadas duas situações: uma rede de distribuição com ou sem um nó central e são propostas adaptações de métodos numéricos com o intuito de adquirir uma maior eficiência com relação ao número de bits a ser transmitido até se obter uma solução com uma precisão determinada.
