Les Français, davantage préoccupés par le chômage ou l’avenir du système de retraite et affectés également par la crise, n’appellent plus majoritairement à une augmentation des prestations familiales comme cela était le cas jusqu’en 2009. Une constante demeure depuis trente ans : la volonté d’une redistribution verticale, davantage liée au niveau de ressources qu’au nombre d’enfants, dans une logique de soutien aux catégories populaires et, de plus en plus, aux classes moyennes, plutôt que dans une perspective nataliste. L’aspiration des femmes et des hommes à un meilleur équilibre de vie ne se traduit pas nécessairement par un soutien de l’opinion aux actions des pouvoirs publics dans la sphère familiale, fortement associée à l’intime et à la liberté individuelle.
