Mourning in parents of drug abusing children: an explorative qualitative study AbstractWhen their son or daughter is using drugs, parents may suffer from stress and may feel they are losing their child. How do parents experience this feeling of loss? By means of semi-structured interviews, the authors explored the experiences of ten parents. From the results, they conclude that the parents experienced a mourning process with chronic recurrence. This process has been rarely studied in addiction research; it deserves closer attention by substance abuse services. The mourning phases as described here, range from disbelief to denial, hope, anger and impotence and can lead to acceptance. Artikelen
