One of the basic challenges in distance education is motivational issues that distance learners encounter because of the factors such as separation in time and space from teachers, other learners, and learning sources. In an effort to minimize this drawback and increase learners' participation into learning processes by motivating distant learners, new approaches such as gamification have been integrated in distance education. Gamification is one of the
Anahtar sözcükler: çoktan seçmeli sorular, güçlük değeri, ayırt edicilik değeri, soru türü, uzaktan eğitim ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study is to determine whether difficulty and discrimination indices of multiple choice questions differ according to item types in Turkey in higher education in a distance education setting and to identify the opinions of students on item types. In this mixed study, both quantitative and qualitative data were collected. Quantitative data were collected from Item Analysis reports including 905 items whereas qualitative data were collected from 20 students via semi-structured interviews to reveal the opinions of students on difficulty levels of questions. It was identified that items were in 4 types which were positive, negative, problem-based and K-Type questions. As a result, there is a significant difference between the difficulty indices of positive questions and problem-based questions as well as negative questions and problem-based questions. On the other hand, no significant difference was found between the discrimination indices. In addition, it was found that opinions of students on the difficulty levels of questions showed variety.
The aim of this study is to determine students' opinions about open-ended question exam practice during 2018-2019 academic year for the following programs of Anadolu University Open Education System: Economy, Hospitality Management, Philosophy, History, Sociology, and Turkish Language and Literature. The study was designed as a quantitative study that describes an existing situation. The measurement tool developed to achieve that purpose includes 5 Likert type questions, 8 closed-ended question -3 of which are yes-no questions-, and 2 open-ended questions. The data were collected between February 14 th 2020 and February 16 th 2020 and 3236 students responded to the tool in total. Percentage-frequency tables and graphs were used for the analysis of the data collected. Since each question in the tool measured a different and independent dimension of the research, the tool was not taken as a scale, so each question was analyzed separately. The data were recoded for certain questions and chi-square analysis was done by using "age", "gender" and "the program they attend" variables. The results of the study showed that majority of the participants find open-ended questions more difficult than multiple-choice questions and have negative opinions about open-ended questions in terms of measuring subject matter competency and fair assessment.
This chapter reveals the results of a preliminary analysis of degree-granting distance education expertise programs by identifying the programs offered by higher education institutions all around the world and examining the general features of these programs from various aspects. As a result of this study, 27 degree-granting programs in 18 universities were identified in 12 different countries for distance education expertise. These programs were examined in terms of the aims and target population, educational models, delivery methods, admission and graduation requirements of the programs, and proposed career opportunities by these programs. The results of this analysis are intended to help develop a basis for the clarification of the profession; guide educational institutions, decision-makers, and program designers for developing distance education expertise programs; help individuals who intend to gain academic expertise in distance education to choose the most suitable program that meets their needs; and contribute to the research on leadership and expertise in distance education.
