Background
The aim of the study was to compare the reason for choosing pediatric dentistry as a professional career.
Materials and Method
The study comprised of Survey among Post Graduate student of speciality of pediatric and preventive dentistry in which candidates were asked to score the influence of factors like parental background, personnel reasons, professional reasons, vocational reasons, economic reasons; by using a questionnaire through Email. The data was recollected and analyzed.
Results
The overall response rate was 70 % and among them 96.4% indicated pediatric dentistry was their 1st career choice. Reasons included higher parental education, awareness and financial stability; own interest, inspiration from teachers/family dentist; future prospective of speciality; and financial viability.
Conclusion
It was concluded that Parental education, awareness and financial stability motivated the child to choose a career of student's own interest and demand of speciality while vocational and economic reasons creating a platform of feasibility.
Promoting positive cognitions has been the quest for psychologists since the psychology has been pre-fixed with the very term positive. To be optimistic is one of the greatest strength for having positive cognitions which is expected to promote feeling of well-being within an individual. Thus, with positive thinking one can achieve the higher level of happiness. Particularly, working women is one of the groups which have been expected to perform multiple roles with efficiency. They have to meet expectations of each and every family member; even then, if they are working they are expected to be equally competent on professional front as well. Therefore it was worth full to conduct a study on working women to access their optimism and strength of its association with happiness for them. The study was carried out on a sample of 130 working females. The results from the statistical analysis revealed that happiness was strongly associated with optimism. Results also indicated that, working women those who scored high on happiness were also found high on optimism as compared to those who fall on the lower side on both the positive attributes.
Teaching is being considered as one of the noblest profession since ancient times. With the changing socio-economic scenario and increasing unemployment, the values of teachers’ and their professional concern with the job have forcibly undergone a drastic change which adversely affects their mental health. The level of mental health of a teacher has been found affected with numerous personal as well as professional demands. Health of teachers, on social, physical and mental health domains adds to the efficiency not only to their professional growth and development but also to their personality. Moreover, they have also been considered as the constructors of the future of a country. Keeping these facts into the consideration, present study aimed to access the level of personal mental health of school teachers, particularly those who work in the public sector schools. Survey method has been employed and Mental Health Index (MHI) was used for collecting the data. 100 secondary and higher secondary school teachers were included in the study. The data was analyzed using descriptive analysis and to find the differences for gender and locations t- test was applied. The t-values reveals that significant gender differences exist among government school teachers and male school teachers were found better on mental health than their female counterparts. Additionally, teachers posted at schools located under urban area were found higher on mental health as compared to teaches posted at schools located under rural areas.
