AbstractPurpose -The purpose of this paper is to propose how to minimize the risks of implementing business process reengineering (BPR) by measuring readiness. For this purpose, the paper proposes an assessment approach for readiness in BPR efforts based on the critical success and failure factors. Design/methodology/approach -A relevant literature review, which investigates success and failure indicators in BPR efforts is carried out and a new categorized list of indicators are proposed. This is a base for conducting a survey to measure the BPR readiness, which has been run in two companies and compared based on a diamond model. Findings -In this research, readiness indicators are determined based on critical success and failure factors. The readiness indicators include six categories. The first five categories, egalitarian leadership, collaborative working environment, top management commitment, supportive management, and use of information technology are positive indicators. The sixth category, resistance to change has a negative role. This paper reports survey results indicating BPR readiness in two Iranian companies. After comparing the position of the two cases, the paper offers several guidelines for amplifying the success points and decreasing failure points and hence, increasing the rate of success. Originality/value -High-failure rate of BPR has been introduced as a main barrier in reengineering processes. In addition, it makes a fear, which in turn can be a failure factor. This paper tries to fill the gap in the literature on decreasing risk in BPR projects by introducing a BPR readiness assessment approach. In addition, the proposed questionnaire is generic and can be utilized in a facilitated manner.
Over the past few years, emergence of Cloud Computing has notably made an evolution in the IT industry by putting forward an 'everything as a service' idea .Cloud Computing is of growing interest to companies throughout the world, but there are many barriers associated with its adoption which should be eliminated. This paper aims to investigate Cloud Computing and discusses the drivers and inhibitors of its adoption. Moreover, an attempt has been made to identify the key stakeholders of Cloud Computing and outline the current security challenges. A SWOT analysis which consists of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats has also carried out in which Cloud Computing adoption for SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) is evaluated. Finally, the paper concludes with some further research areas in the field of Cloud Computing.
Implementation of business intelligence systems (BIS) is very complex and requires a lot of resources and time. Business intelligence (BI) is a difficult concept and has a multi-tier architecture. The metadata causes the complexity of the BI. That is why a BI readiness model is required. The frequency of BI maturity models, such as the data warehousing (TDW), has been provided, but there are few frameworks for measuring the readiness. Moreover, readiness frameworks often provide a general model for all organizations. Hence, the objective of this study was to examine whether the factors affecting the organizational readiness for BI implementation in all organizations are identical. For this purpose, based on a comprehensive literature review, four factors of culture, people, strategy, and management were extracted as the most important factors affecting the readiness and implementation of BI, and they were studied in three educational, commerce, and IT organizations. Based on the findings, different factors affect various organizations, and using a general model should not be advised.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
