Background: Due to various limitations in conventional drug delivery system, it is important to focus on the target-specific drug delivery system where we can deliver the drug without any degradation. Among various challenges faced by a formulation scientist, delivering the drug to its right site, in its right dose, is also an important aim. A focused drug transport aims to extend, localize, target and have a safe drug interaction with the diseased tissue. Objective: The aim of targeted drug delivery is to make the required amount of the drug available at its desired site of action. Drug targeting can be accomplished in a number ways that include enzyme mediation, pH-dependent release, use of special vehicles, receptor targeting among other mechanisms. Intelligently designed targeted drug delivery systems also offer the advantages of a low dose of the drug along with reduced side effects which ultimately improves patient compliance. Incidences of dose dumping and dosage form failure are negligible. A focused drug transport aims to have a safe drug interaction with the diseased tissue. Conclusion: This review focuses on the available targeting techniques for delivery to the colon, brain and other sites of interest. Overall, the article should make an excellent read for the researchers in this area. Newer drug targets may be identified and exploited for successful drug targeting.
Androgens have an intense consequence on the human scalp and body hair. Scalp hair sprouts fundamentally in awol of androgens whereas the body hair hike is vulnerable to the activity of androgens. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) invoked as males emulate Alopecia due to the cause of the dynamic reduction of scalp hair. Androgens are medium of terminus growth of hair although the body. Local and system androgens convert the extensive terminal follicles into lesser vellus like structure. The out start of this type of alopecia is intensely irregular and the reason behind this existence of enough circulating steroidal hormones androgens and due to genetic predisposition. Effective treatments are available in the market as well as under clinical and preclinical testing. Many herbal formulations are also available but not FDA approved. Different conventional and NDDS formulations are already available in the market. To avoid various systemic side effects of both Finasteride and Minoxidil, topical formulations and natural products (nutrients, minerals, vitamins) now a days are being widely used to treat Androgenic alopecia. CAM (complementary and alternative medicine) provides the option to elect favorable, low-risk, adjuvant and alternative therapies. Herein, we offer a widespread review of topical marketed formulations, natural products, and CAM treatment options for AGA. Graphic Abstract
Hantaviruses are rodent viruses that have been identified as etiologic agents of 2 diseases of humans: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and nephropathiaepidemica (NE) in the Old World and Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) in the New World. Orthohantavirus is a genus of sin- gle-stranded, enveloped, negative-sense RNA viruses in the family Hantaviridae of the order Bunyavi- rales. The important reservoir of Hantaviruses is rodents. Each virus serotype has its unique rodent host species and is transmitted to human beings with the aid of aerosolized virus, which is shed in urine, fae- ces and saliva and hardly by a bite of the contaminated host. Andes virus is the only Hantavirus identified to be transmitted from human-to-human and its major signs and symptoms include fever, headache, mus- cle aches, lungs filled with fluid etc. In the early 1993, this viral syndrome appeared in the Four Cor- ner location in the south western United States. The only accepted therapeutics for this virus is Ribavirin. Recently, serological examinations to identify Hantavirus antibodies have become most popular for in- vestigation among humans and rodent reservoirs.
Background: Sertraline Hydrochloride, an oral anti-depressant, has two chiral centers and its cis enantiomers and trans diasteromers are defined as related substances by United State Pharmacopoeia and British Pharmacopoeia. Introduction: A selective, stereospecific and economical high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed for the determination of sertraline enantiomeric forms. The HPLC-UV method was developed and optimized in the terms of system suitability parameters. Methods: The elution was made using a mixture of -cyclodextrin (-CD) and hydroxypropyl - cyclodextrin (HP -CD). Analysis was performed on a Zorbax SB C-18 column (250 x 4.6mm), 5μ with the mobile phase consisting of 170mM KH2PO4 containing -CD and HP -CD (pH: 3.0 with dil. H3PO4) and acetonitrile (75:25, v/v). Flow rate was kept at 1.0mL/min and the detection was carried out by UV at 220nm. Enantio-separation for sertraline was carried out using two different CDs (β-CD and HP β- CD) at different concentrations in the mobile phase. Results: Complete resolution of all the four isomers was achieved using 9mM β-CD and 15mM HP β- CD in the mobile phase. The development was optimized using central composite quadric model, where concentration of -CD and HP -CD were varied and resolution between trans diastereomeric impurities was calculated as a response. Conclusion: Resolution between any pair of isomers was found to be more than 2. Method development and optimization leading to the best resolution between the isomers of sertraline is described in detail.
Pre-eclampsia is a type of hypertension that affects several organs during pregnancy. Pre-eclampsia, on the other hand, does not go away once the baby is born, but it can harm the mother and her children for years. A pre-eclamptic woman is at risk for cerebrovascular disease, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, and metabolic abnormalities later in life if she has pre-eclampsia. In research, children born to pre-eclamptic moms have had a variety of issues. These conditions are associated with cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and gastrointestinal issues later in life. The purpose of this study is to learn more about the long-term impact of pre-eclampsia on both mothers and children. Pregnancy and postpartum offer a unique window of opportunity for screening and intervention for both mother and child in the interests of health maintenance and disease prevention.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
