A cette période cruciale de l'histoire de la Louisiane, ces réfugiés ont grandement aidé la communauté francophone à maintenir son héritage face à l'américanisation culturelle et linguistique qui découlait naturellement de cette transaction. Ce sont les manifestations de cette participation et les raisons de leur poids qui sont examinées ici.
