RESUMO:Foram utilizados 30 caprinos naturalmente infectados pelo Mycoplasma agalactiae com a finalidade de comparar os tratamentos alopático e homeopático para agalaxia contagiosa. Os animais foram divididos em três grupos de forma aleatória e homogênea, sendo respectivamente, tratados com bioterápico (grupo I), com alopatia (grupo II) e controle (grupo III). No grupo I os animais receberam durante oito semanas, três doses diárias de 10 mL do bioterápico diluído em água potável. Os animais do grupo II foram tratados durante oito dias com tilosina e sete dias com oxitetraciclina LA (20 mg/kg). Todos os animais foram observados diariamente por um período de 365 dias para acompanhamento da evolução clínica. Após um período de 7 a 49 dias, foi observado cura clínica de todos os animais do grupo I. No grupo II a alopatia apesar de proporcionar uma diminuição da sintomatologia clínica, não possibilitou a cura clínica de todos os animais, onde foram observadas recidivas nos sinais clínicos de mastite ou agalaxia (40%) e artrite (25%). No grupo controle três animais com mastite e dois com ceratoconjuntivite permaneceram com os sintomas durante todo período experimental. Apesar da diminuição da sintomatologia clínica após a punção articular, um (20%) animal do grupo III veio a óbito devido à cronicidade do quadro clínico. Abortos foram observados no grupo II e III com 12,5% e 28,57% dos nascimentos, respectivamente. Concluise, portanto, que o tratamento da agalaxia contagiosa com bioterápico de M. agalactiae é eficaz no controle dos sinais clínicos em animais naturalmente infectados, sendo este superior em eficácia em comparação ao tratamento alopático. Pesquisou-se Mycoplasma spp. em amostras de suabes vaginais e prepuciais de 154 animais, sendo 61 caprinos e 93 ovinos, oriundos de quatro rebanhos localizados nos municípios de Patos, São José do Bonfim, São José de Princesa e Soledade, estado da Paraíba. Foram coletados dados sobre o históricoreprodutivo e realizado o exame específico do sistema genital. Não foram observadas lesões na genitália externa nos animais estudados. O isolamento do Mycoplasma spp. foi realizado em meio Hayflick modificado, líquido e sólido. Dentre as amostras analisadas, duas (1,3%) apresentaram crescimento de Mycoplasma spp., sendo uma na espécie caprina e outra em um ovino pertencentes a ao rebanho de Patos e São José do Bonfim, respectivamente. Confirmou-se a presença de Mycoplasma spp. no trato reprodutivo de pequenos ruminantes na região do semiárido paraibano, no entanto, não houve associação do isolamento de micoplasmas com lesões na genitália externa. O presente trabalho é o primeiro relato do isolamento deste agente em genitálias de caprinos e ovinos na região Nordeste do Brasil.
A ivermectina é um derivado semi-sintético das avermectinas. Essas lactonas macrocíclicas são obtidas como compostos da fermentação do actinomiceto Streptomyces avermitilis, apesar de sua ampla margem de segurança, casos de intoxicação iatrogênica tem sido observados em diversas espécies animais. O objetivo do presente trabalho é relatar o primeiro surto de intoxicação por ivermectina em suínos no Brasil. Os casos descritos neste estudo foram observados em uma propriedade rural no Município de Catingueira, Estado da Paraíba. O rebanho era composto por 103 suínos, destes 32 foram medicados com ivermectina a 1% por via subcutânea para tratamento de ecto e endoparasitose. A dose utilizada foi cinco vezes superior a recomendada para espécie. Os animais apresentaram anorexia, tremores, ataxia, paresia dos membros posteriores, depressão, coma e morte. 96,9% dos animais evoluiram a óbito. Os sinais clínicos foram observados em média oito horas após administração do fármaco e o período de evolução que culminou com o óbito variou de 10 a 48 horas. O presente estudo chama atenção para a necessidade de se calcular com precisão a dose de ivermectina a ser utilizada em suínos, em especial para animais jovens, uma vez que é possível que nos mesmos a barreira hematoencafálica seja mais permeável ao fármaco em relação aos adultos.
