Este documento reflexiona acerca de la creación de la imagen escultórica de Antonio José de Sucre, que, por un lado, debía cumplir la función de ejemplificación social, y por otro, debía ser una imagen de reconocimiento nacional, con incidencia en el ideario patriótico ecuatoriano, por lo cual, se analizaron los proyectos artísticos escultórico públicos sobre el Mariscal Sucre en las ciudades de Quito, Cuenca y Guayaquil respectivamente. Aquí se demuestra el ejercicio del poder político, sobre las manifestaciones artísticas, también permite explicar cómo se dio o no la apropiación del personaje en las ciudades por separado, y plantea a la obra escultórica como un esfuerzo consciente del poder local que da forma a la memoria oficial.
