Resumo: Esse trabalho investigou como variáveis econômicas são capazes de afetar percepções dos cidadãos acerca da performance de um chefe de estado. A abordagem assumiu a forma de um modelo econométrico para servir como uma função popularidade para o Brasil, cobrindo o período de 1995 a 2019. Os resultados desta análise empírica substanciam que a aprovação de um governo pela população é sensível a variações da taxa de desemprego e da taxa de inflação. O presente artigo contribuiu para a literatura em razão de ter compreendido o período mais longo já analisado em estudos do gênero para o Brasil. Ademais, foi também a primeira vez em que o impeachment da ex-presidente Dilma Rousseff foi incluído na estimação da função popularidade para o Brasil. Os resultados obtidos a partir do modelo revelaram que o evento exerceu impacto significativo na taxa de aprovação de Dilma entre os cidadãos brasileiros.
