ResumoIntrodução: As doenças crônicas não transmissíveis, dentre elas a Diabetes Mellitus (DM) representam nos dias atuais doenças mundiais, tornando-se um extenso desafio para os sistemas de saúde de todo o mundo Intervenção. Objetivo: analisar os resultados do 1°ciclo de implantação do Programa Nacional de Melhoria do Acesso e da Qualidade da Atenção Básica (PMAQ-AB) no município de João Pessoa (PB) referente ao cuidado integral a Diabetes Mellitus. Material e método: Trata-se de estudo transversal com dados secundários obtidos da base de dados da avaliação externa do Programa Nacional de Melhoria do Acesso e da Qualidade da Atenção Básica (PMAQ-AB) no ano de 2012. Resultados: No que diz respeito à caracterização dos usuários que se submeteram a responder ao questionário da Avaliação Externa no município de João Pessoa-PB predominaram o sexo feminino 312, com idade superior a 30 anos 251 e considerados pardos ou mestiços 195, também utilizou o questionário para obter mais informações sobre usuários com diabetes mellitus, ao serem questionados se algum dos médicos das unidades de saúde já o informou que o mesmo teria diabetes, 33 pessoas responderam que sim, de toda a pesquisa do município de João Pessoa. Conclusão: Foi observado que mesmo sendo diagnosticados, muitos dos usuários não buscam uma assistência para o controle de sua doença, deixando para procurar sua unidade de saúde quando ocorre uma alteração da diabetes, tornando um desafio para o seu controle. AbstractIntroduction: Non-transmissible chronic diseases, among them Diabetes Mellitus (DM) represent today's world-wide diseases, making it an extensive challenge for health systems throughout the world. Objective: To analyze the results of the first cycle of implementation of the National Program for Improving Access and Quality of Primary Care (PMAQ-AB) in the city of João Pessoa (PB), regarding comprehensive care for Diabetes Mellitus. Material and method: This is a cross-sectional study with secondary data obtained from the external evaluation database of the National Program for Improving Access and Quality of Basic Care (PMAQ-AB) in 2012. Results: Regarding To the characterization of the users who submitted to the External Evaluation questionnaire in the city of João Pessoa-PB, women predominated 312, aged over 30 years 251 and considered to be brown or mestizos 195, also used the questionnaire to obtain more information about Patients with diabetes mellitus, when asked if any of the physicians at the health facilities had informed him that he would have diabetes, 33 people answered yes to all the research in the municipality of João Pessoa. Conclusion: It was observed that even when diagnosed, many of the users do not seek assistance to control their illness, leaving to look for their health unit when there is an al Diabetes, making it a challenge for your control.
