La presente tesis de maestría reconstruye y analiza, a través de un estudio de caso, las experiencias de convivencia y participación que construyen jóvenes y adultos en escuelas secundarias rurales del sudeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires. El contexto rural, poco visible en las investigaciones, se encuentra atravesado por la redefinición de la concepción tradicional sobre “lo rural” y el crecimiento del nivel de educación secundario en estos territorios, a partir de la progresiva extensión de su obligatoriedad. El estudio asume una perspectiva micro política de la vida escolar, intentando aportar a la reflexión sobre las interacciones que subyacen entre las políticas educativas y las experiencias escolares, desde la singularidad de sus contextos. En cuanto a lo metodológico, recupera estrategias del enfoque etnográfico y de la investigación social antropológica, combinando prácticas de observación participante, entrevistas semiestructuradas y grupos de discusión, con el análisis de fuentes secundarias. Los desafíos de la democratización de las prácticas escolares dialogan con la familiaridad de las comunidades rurales, no por ello exentas de conflictos y permeadas, a su vez, por cuestiones de género que moldean las relaciones institucionales. La complejidad de los vínculos que implica el encuentro con otros ha permitido observar cómo la convivencia se dirime en estas escuelas ante ciertos “nudos” que visibilizan la autorregulación y la ausencia de regulación, ciertas “sospechas” sobre las sanciones que actúan como fuerzas que intentan ordenar los vínculos, pero también formas de disolver conflictos. Las acciones y situaciones en las que las juventudes rurales se reconocen participando remiten a la cotidianidad y a la sociabilidad entre pares, en ocasiones vinculadas a las propuestas de los centros de estudiantes. Iniciativas ligadas a las mejoras edilicias o proyectos recreativos, son interpretados como “básicas” por los adultos, pero demuestran la importancia del tiempo de estar en la escuela para estas juventudes. La comprensión de la política y las expresiones de politicidad de los actores se encuentran signadas tanto por su distanciamiento con lo escolar como por el reconocimiento desde los márgenes de lo rural, canalizando demandas y preocupaciones estudiantiles.
