Background:The workplace ostracism phenomenon is taking more attention in the eyes of social researchers and also different studies verified that it has a adverse effect on organizational outcome and also individual behavior and performance. Research Aim: To evaluate workplace ostracism and counterproductive work behaviors among nurses Methodology: A cross sectional design was conducted at Damanhour university hospitals (medical/surgical units and Intensive Care Units (ICU) at Itai El baroud central hospital, Kom Hamada central hospital, Damanhour fever hospital and Damanhour chest hospital), Beni suef university hospital & fever, chest and Ophthalmology hospitals. The subjects were 349 nurses. A self-administered questionnaire containing three parts (Demographic characteristics, Workplace Ostracism Instrument, counterproductive work behaviors) Results: The present study revealed that more than half of studied nurses had moderate level of counterproductive work behaviors. While, one quarter of nurses had low counterproductive work behaviors. About two thirds of studied nurses had moderate level of workplace ostracism. While, one fifth of nurses had low workplace ostracism. Conclusions: There was high positive correlation between counterproductive work behaviors and workplace ostracism at p value <0.01. Recommendation: Provide training courses for nurses about ostracism behavior and team work. Further researcher about assessing perception of head nurses related ostracism and counterproductive behavior.
Background: Nurses are vital to the delivery of safe and effective care at critical units, but improper team work and high patient workloads may cause missed nursing care. Research Aims: To examine the relationship among workload, teamwork, and missed nursing care at intensive care units Methodology: Correlational research design was conducted at Intensive Care Units (ICU) at Fayoum university hospitals. Intensive care units at Kom Hamada central hospital, Damanhour fever hospital and Damanhour chest hospital. The subjects were 207 nurses. A self-administered questionnaire containing four parts; (Part I: Demographic characteristics of the subjects such as age, gender, marital status, nurse role, qualifications, experience, shift worked, nurse to patient ratio, length of shift time, Part II: Miss care Survey was developed to measure the frequency with which nursing care activities are omitted or delayed, and to identify the factors that contribute to these missed activities as perceived by nursing staff in the acute care setting,Part III: Workload Subscale was used to measure the nursing staff's perception of workload. This subscale was designed to measure "the extent to which feelings of pressure and urgency dominate the work environment", Part IV: Nursing Teamwork Survey, This 33-item instrument was designed to measure teamwork among nurses in the acute care setting, but the items generically address teamwork activities across nursing care settings.) Results: The present study showed that less than half of studied nurses had moderate missed care and moderate team work. According to workload perception, about half of studied nurses had moderate workload Conclusions: There was highly significant positive correlation between workload and missed care at p value <0.01. While, there was highly significant negative correlation between teamwork with workload and missed care at p value <0.01. The study recommends that: Nurse managers must monitor missed care and workload daily to ensure proper sizing of staff and safety of care, Educational workshop for nurses about teamwork skills and coping mechanism related workload, Further researches about predictive factors affecting nursing missed care.
Self-esteem is considered as emotional response and general feeling about the self. Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand feelings and emotions, put them in a ways that make emotion and intelligent mature and healthy. The aim of the study to explore the relationship between self esteem and emotional intelligence among nursing managers, Research design: descriptive correlational research design used in this study. Setting: The present study conducted at Sohag and Damanhour University Hospitals. Subjects: 72 nursing mangers at two study setting 36 for each. Tools: the tools used in the study demographic data sheet, self esteem scale, and Emotional Intelligence questionnaire. Results: The highest percentage was low self esteem at sohag (52.8%) and Damanhour (44.4%), and they were low emotional intelligence at sohag (47.2%) and Damanhour (33.3%). Conclusion: There were highly positive correlation between all studied variable and highly significant difference between mean scores related to self-esteem and emotional intelligence items and total of studied nursing managers at Sohag and Damanhour hospitals with p value <0.01. Recommendations: provide emotional skills training, try to build relationships with positive people, and learn to be assertive
Background: Professionalism in nursing reflects the act of providing quality patient care while honoring the values of respect, advocacy, and responsibility. Professionalism also extends to a nurse's ability to communicate clearly and self-reflect on behaviors and actions, always striving for both professional and personal development Research Aim: to assess the effect of a training program on improving intern nursing students' professionalism Research design: A quasi experimental design was utilized from January 2021 -May 2021. Research Setting: The study was carried out at faculty of nursing affiliated to Fayoum University Sample: The subjects were 165 intern nursing students through convenience sample. Tool: A self-administered questionnaire after translated to Arabic language, containing three parts (Demographic characteristics, Professionalism scale) Results: Mean score of scientific and technical domains pre intervention were 6.87±2.34 and 5.23 ± 1.76 , while post intervention was 12.76 ± 3.56 and 10.90±3.24 and follow-up were 11.80±3.24 and 10.13±2.80. Additionally, mean score of face to face interview and peer review domains pre intervention was 5.60±1.34 and 7.12±2.56, while post intervention were 10.50±2.24 and 13.21±3.01 and follow-up were 10.03±2.65 and 12.43±2.70. Conclusions: This study concluded that more than two thirds of studied intern nursing students had low professionalism pre intervention, while improved to more than half of them had high professionalism post intervention and follow-up with high significant difference at p value <0.01**. Recommendation: Provide education program for head nurses about benefits of achieving professionalism at work. Assess the factors that hinder achieving professionalism at nursing.
