Introduction: Good sleep quality has positive effects on happiness, and being unhappy is significantly affect adverse cardiac outcomes. This study aimed to study the relationships between sleep quality and satisfaction in male coronary patients. Methods: One hundred male coronary patients that having been referred to Madani Heart Hospital, Tabriz, Iran, completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ). All participants were selected by purposive sampling (aged 37 to 67 years). Results: There was a significant negative association between happiness with sleep disturbances and the use of sleeping medication in coronary patients.
Conclusion:This study showed that sleep quality in coronary patients has an association with their happiness. Therefore, the quality of sleep in these patients can be given more consideration by community health care providers.
DEAR EDITOR,Three-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a powerful tool for assessment of mitral valve area with multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) or direct planimetery in patients with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. Two dimensional transthorasic echocardiography (2D TTE) is a well-known conventional method in these patients which is used routinely. This method is less accurate than 3D TEE because mitral valve is saddle shaped and 2D images cannot image this valve correctly [1-7]. Exact method for 3D mitral valve area measurement is not determined yet and MPR was used as an accurate method. Direct planimetery by 3D TEE emerged as a novel method to evaluate mitral valve area with least variability [8].
Objective:Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the main leading causes of mortality and morbidity. Reteplase is a fibrin-specific thrombolytic which is used in the treatment of AMI. There is a limited number of studies reporting the postmarketing adverse drug reactions (ADRs) induced by reteplase. This study was aimed to examine the reteplase pattern of ADR and its associated risk factors in patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Methods:A cross-sectional, prospective study in an 8-month period was done at the University affiliated referral cardiovascular center. The Naranjo probability scale and World Health Organization criteria for severity of ADRs were used for assessing the ADRs. The linear regression and logistic regression tests were used to evaluate the correlation between ADRs and risk factors.Findings:The all 20 patients who received reteplase during the study period were entered. The majority of patients (n = 17) experienced at least one ADR. The results showed that the incidence of ADRs was mainly associated with gender and age, and the number of ADRs was associated with the history of diabetes and taking anti-diabetic agents. The gender was the main predictor in the occurrence of ADRs (odds ratio: 32, 95% confidence interval: 1.38–737.45; P = 0.030).Conclusion:The results showed that gender, age, diabetes mellitus, and using of anti-diabetes medications are the risk factors associated with the incidence of ADRs by reteplase.
Objectives: Nowadays, vitamin D3 (VitD3) deficiency is among the most common dietary deficiencies around the world. Researchers have paid more attention to VitD3 because it is a vital element of the body and has a plausible relationship with various diseases such as diabetes mellitus type II. This study was conducted to examine the prevalence of vitamin D3 deficiency and its relationship with blood sugar levels in people with diabetes undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
Methods: An observational study was conducted in 2017 in Shahid Madani Hospital, Tabriz, Iran, for 8 months. Due to the use of census sampling, only 115 patients with diabetes and open-heart surgery were enrolled in the study. A questionnaire collected information on the participants' demographics, medical history, VitD3 levels and blood glucose levels. Data were analyzed using SPSS ver. 25. Independent t-test was used to compare quantitative data, and chi-square test was used to compare categorical variables.
Results: One hundred and fifteen out of 348 patients who had CABG surgery were diabetic. Moreover, 24.7% of patients with diabetes had VitD3 deficiency. The results of the coefficient-correlation test indicated that there was a significant relationship between the mean blood glucose level and VitD3 level (p < 0.05).
Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that patients with diabetes can improve their blood glucose control after CABG surgery by taking sufficient VitD3. Therefore, it should be considered as a principle of the hospital operation to prescribe VitD3 prior to surgery for these patients.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
