We evaluated the serum levels of tnajor basic protein (MBP), assayed u.sing an MBP radioimmutioassay kit, and the effect ol an anti-allergic agent, ketotilen, which has strong anti-eosinophil activity, in 56 atopic dermatitis (AD) patienls. The serum MBP level was significantly lower {660.1 i ± 34.52 ng/ml. P < 0.05) after adtiiinistration of kelolifen (1 mg twice a day) for 8 weeks than before treatment (774.98 ± 48.64 ng/ml). These findings suggest that serum MBP levels are a u.seful indicator of AD activity and that anti-allergic agents can have an effect on eosinophil involvement in AD.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
