: The expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) was investigated in carcinogenesis in the 9, 10-dimethy1-1, 2-benzanthracene (DMBA)-induced hamster tongue model. The tongues of animals which were pretreated with DMBA for 8 weeks, subsequently excised, and received no further treatment or additional postexcisional application of DMBA for 9 to 13 days, exhibited epithelial dysplasia and squamous cell carcinomas. EGFR was expressed at high levels in both the dysplastic and cancerous stages in carcinogenesis in this model. These results suggest that EGFR expression is an indicator of premalignant and malignant transformation in hamster tongue carcinogenesis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
