AIDS has raised many complex public policy questions with regard to priorities for research, how best to conduct prevention efforts, and how to encourage and finance appropriate AIDS patient care. These issues are reviewed from the perspective of a legislator who represents an area with a disproportionate number of AIDS cases. Particular attention is focused on the role of the federal government in responding to the human needs associated with the AIDS epidemic.
