Hyperthyroidism may impact liver biochemistry negatively. Clinicians need a high index of suspicion in patients presenting with unexplained deranged liver enzymes or jaundice. Timely initiation of thionamides portends good prognosis.
Deranged liver enzymes due to hyperthyroidism rather than intrinsic
liver pathology are not uncommon. We present two cases that highlight
the impact of hyperthyroidism on liver biochemistry tests and good
response to treatment. A high index of suspicion is paramount in
patients presenting with unexplained deranged liver enzymes or jaundice.
