The statistics of injuries in Russian Federation put accidents in heightworks in the first place. Heightworks using rope access (RA) are considered. The purpose of this study was to determine the safety margin of RA anchors when used by specialists for increasing the safety of heightworks. The values of peak loads arising in the anchor during ascending using the two rope clamps technique and when descending using descender are determined. The empirical results of loads in the RA are presented to increase the competence of safety specialists when working at heights. The results showed that the loads in the RA can reach up to 544% of the load created by a specialist in a static position. The loads upon the point exceeded the worker’s weight by 5.44 times due to the dynamic nature of the impact of the displacement technique. The values of peak forces at anchor points obtained when performing work using RA should be taken into account by high rise work safety specialists, when drawing up work and rescue plans, planning the method of performing work in rope access systems.
The analysis of industrial injuries when working at heights is conducted. Statistics show that a fall from a height takes more than 30% of the total number of accidents. Operations with the help of ladders are the most common type of works at heights. However, the ease of installation and use of ladders often leads to the fact that the persons performing the work do not pay enough attention to safety. The aim of the work was to improve the safety in operation at heights with the use of ladders inclined to the horizontal surface. An important prerequisite for the safe use of ladders is to ensure their stability. There were analyzed the most common devices used to increase the stability of ladders. The issue of applying a lifeline system attached to a ladder (if the ladder is affixed to a building or other structure), when working with a ladder at heights of more than 1.8 m, is considered. The inferiority of this issue is shown in the current regulatory documents. It was proposed to revise the relevant requirements in the regulatory documents on the possibility of using a lifeline system attached to the ladder, requirements for the durability of the ladders and methods of their testing.
This article considers static ropes - one of the components of a personal fall protection system when working at heights. The issue of accidents when working at heights in Russia and abroad is raised. The inspection of the ropes is considered as one of the local mechanisms to reduce injuries when performing work at heights, as well as the advanced training of specialists responsible for the inspection of personal protective equipment against falling from a height. The effect of acid solutions most commonly encountered in industrial activities with short-term contact and with prolonged contact on polyamide ropes is investigated. Recommendations are given for a more competent use of these products in various situations without compromising safety. The questions of solving the problem of the hidden effect of acids on static ropes with a polyester sheath are raised.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
