This study investigates the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and dividend policy (DP) using a data triangulation approach in the Sri Lankan context. The findings of the secondary data approach suggest that there is a positive impact from environmental and social CSR on both the likelihood to pay dividends and its payout. Findings of the primary data approach propose that ethical and philanthropic CSR dimensions show a positive impact on both likelihood to pay dividends and its payout. The findings of the triangulation approach revealed that CSR and DP tend to rise together. Hence, we argue that the generosity of the management paves the way towards shareholders' prosperity. This is the first study to investigate the CSR‐DP puzzle using a data triangulation approach. Future researchers could use this study as a guideline, if they intend to conduct a research study through data triangulation approaches especially in dividend policy and also in finance discipline.
Students' Perceived Service Quality (SPSQ) and Students' Satisfaction (SSAT) in Open Distance Learning (ODL) are renowned features in Higher Education (HE) field in the present-day. The vast number of research studies have addressed diverse types of variables on different grounds. The ODL students are from various family backgrounds such as cultural, social, technological skill levels, and most importantly defer from basic educational entry qualifications. This must cognize how the HE institutions are able to offer their diversified services together with quality enhanced features to enjoy a competitive edge from the student's satisfaction point of view. The number of students completing the course, or graduates passing out are diminishing when compared with the increase in number of registered student's year on year. Most of the universities and HE institutions have faced student persistence and attrition problems and rush to find solutions with the concepts of service quality and satisfaction. The purpose of this study is mainly based on finding out the significant factors affecting the SPSQ and SSAT. This study will address the modified SERVQUAL constructs in relation to the SPSQ and SSAT. The independent variables were Assurance, Empathy, Responsiveness, Reliability, and Website Content and the dependent variables were the Students' Perceived Service Quality and Satisfaction in ODL in the OUSL. Data was collected by using a self-administered questionnaire from 760 undergraduate students of the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) covering six main regional centers island wide. The OUSL is the unique university operating under the ODL system in Sri Lanka. The analysis was based on descriptive and inferential statistics. The significant relationships are revealed between the SPSQ and Reliability, Responsiveness and Website Content. The other significant relationships are SSAT with Reliability and Website Content and the relationship between SPSQ and SSAT. The R 2 for the SPSQ is 0.244 (24%) and SSAT is 0.549 (55%). The same research could be recommended as a future research with more service quality variables, and in regional centers as a longitudinal data collection method to understand more about service quality and satisfaction which influence student retention and completion.
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to identify the factors affecting learners' perception of e-learning during the Coronavirus-2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. Furthermore, it investigates mechanisms that enhance students' engagement in e-learning, especially under the constraints created by the pandemic.Design/methodology/approachQuantitative research approach was used, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The sample consisted of 163 undergraduates registered at the Faculty of Management Studies of the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL). The structured questionnaire was designed taking into consideration learners attached to different regional centers and study centers of the OUSL.FindingsAs per the findings, performance expectancy, social influence, effort expectancy and service quality are the factors which have significant effects on students' “intention to use” e-learning as a method of pursuing education. Furthermore, it was observed that 65.6% of the students had access to technology through mobile phones, while 53.4% of the students had engaged in e-learning for the first time. This was mainly due to restrictions that were imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic.Practical implicationsThe study will help in formulating policies and introducing procedures in relation to online teaching-learning models to be used by both teachers and learners, especially in similar pandemic situations in the future.Originality/valueThis study will assist to determine the effectiveness of the e-learning system used by the OUSL. The findings highlighted the importance of improving information technology (IT) facilities available at all the regional and study centers across Sri Lanka.
The study examined the impact of transformational leadership behavior of salespersons on their customers' relationship marketing behavior in the corporate banking sector in Sri Lanka. Researchers found that there is a relationship between transformational leadership and relationship marketing. The results of this study revealed that relationship marketing is well practiced by private banks than in state banks. Another important piece of information is that the majority of corporate customers who deals with the banks are males. The present study contributes to the practice of relationship marketing by shedding light on how salespersons can create and develop the practice of relationship marketing. Furthermore this research has identified what sort of relationship would create better communication and relationship with customers. Thus findings of this research will helpful to prepare training manuals, training guidance as well as training programs. Further these findings, especially transformational leadership qualities of salesperson can be used as one of the criteria's in selection process.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
