This study examines the email correspondences of a junior engineer who just graduated from the university in 2011. The findings shows that the language patterns in the emails are greatly related to the job duties of this engineer and are specifically related to the professional practice in the engineering environment. It is also argued that the methodology adopted in this study could be utilized by engineering students and graduates for monitoring their self-development and improving communication and language skills.
I EC 625 86 was just released as the standard for functional and type test on power quality instruments. To gether with the existing I EC 61 000-4-30 series standards, IEC 62586 completes the testing needs on development and calibration over power quality related devices. While the specified tests in this new standard could be challenging in terms of signal generation, the benefits to the power quality meter and protection relay industries are obvious. The purpose of this study is to share our understandings and ex periences on the new IEC 625 86 standards with a focus on the challeng es and opportunities which the new IEC standards bring to the industry and utilities. At the end of our paper, the sug gested method s of automatic testing is elaborated as well.
