Objetivo: Analisar a relevância da aplicação do Mini Exame do Estado Mental (MEEM) em idosos no Brasil. Métodos: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa, abordada conforme a metodologia Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. A busca foi realizada em duas bases de dados: MEDLINE, LILACS, por meio da BVS. Os descritores utilizados para a seleção dos artigos foram: “idosos”, “desenvolvimento cognitivo”, e “capacidade funcional”, combinados com o operador booleano “AND” entre si, nos idiomas em português e inglês, sob o período de 2016 e 2021. Resultados: Entre as intervenções elencadas, o MEEM apresentou resultados satisfatórios, acompanhado a prática regular de atividades físicas e a eventos que permitam que os idosos tenham maiores conhecimentos acerca da presente temática e da possibilidade de melhoria de suas atividades cognitivas. Considerações finais: Conclui-se que, perante as pesquisas analisadas, o MEEM torna-se um teste de avaliação relevante, objetivo, de fácil aplicação, constantemente empregado por médicos e que pode vir a ser empregado por outros profissionais da saúde. Entretanto, por se tratar de um teste simplificado, seus resultados podem orientar condutas mais especializadas.
