Los hábitos orales son responsables de gran cantidad de alteraciones dentoalveolares y de tejidos blandos. El conocimiento del manejo de estos es de vital importancia para el clínico. El propósito de esta revisión es buscar en la literatura científica, el manejo de los hábitos orales más comunes, para así, crear una guía de tratamiento que ayude al clínico en su manejo. Metodología: Se revisaron 121 artículos de las bases Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Ebsco, Scielo y Google Scholar. Se priorizaron los artículos del tipo revisiones sistemáticas, metaanálisis, ensayos clínicos aleatorizados y guías clínicas, con una antigüedad no mayor a 5 años. Luego de la revisión y selección final, se utilizaron 45 artículos. La búsqueda se realizó en inglés y español, utilizando las palabras claves para los temas: succión no nutritiva, deglución atípica, respiración bucal, bruxismo y succión o mordedura labial. Conclusiones: el manejo de los hábitos orales es de carácter multidisciplinario. Existen distintos tipos de terapias y aparatología para cada uno de ellos, por lo que es importante realizar un adecuado diagnóstico y plan de tratamiento de acuerdo a las condiciones y necesidades particulares de cada paciente.
El láser es integrado en las ciencias médicas a mediados de los años 70 y se encuentra en constante evolución. En el mercado odontológico encontramos al láser de alta potencia, tales como el láser de Argón, de Diodo, Nd: YAG, Er, Cr: YSGG, Er: YAG y CO2, resaltando las aplicaciones del láser de diodo en tejidos blandos y el láser de Erbio para tejidos duros. Dentro de las ventajas del láser de alta potencia está acelerar la cicatrización y la expresión de colágenos, la desinfección de conductos radiculares en pulpectomías y la disminución en la permeabilidad dental. En el área de la odontología pediátrica, debemos resaltar la disminución del tiempo de trabajo y un aumento en la colaboración del paciente por la reducción/eliminación del dolor en los procedimientos; como por ejemplo la aplicación de anestesia. Dentro de los puntos a evaluar para el profesional de salud está el costo/beneficio y la capacitación necesaria para poder realizar los procedimientos con precisión, exactitud y bajo todas las medidas de seguridad.
Objetivo: El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar la frecuencia de hábitos orales y alteraciones dentoalveolares en niños de 7 a 12 años de edad. Material y métodos: El presente estudio es de tipo descriptivo, transversal y retrospectivo; se revisaron las historias clínicas de ortodoncia de niños en edades de 7 a 12 años del servicio de odontopediatría del centro dental docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia durante el periodo 2015 - 2020. Resultados: Se analizaron un total 149 historias clínicas, el 55,7% (n=83) pertenecieron al sexo femenino y 44,3% (n=66) al sexo masculino. El porcentaje de hábitos orales fue del 38,93%, presentándose la deglución atípica (21,48%), interposición labial (10,07%) y respiración bucal (8,72%). Dentro de las alteraciones dentoalveolares en el plano transversal se encontró mordida cruzada anterior (30,20%); en el plano vertical la mordida profunda (24,16%) y en el plano sagital, maloclusión clase I (57,72%), maloclusión clase II (23,49%) y maloclusión clase III (18,79%). Respecto a alteraciones dentoalveolares congénitas se encontró agenesia de pieza permanente (17,45%); y en otras alteraciones adquiridas, desviación de línea media (79,87%) y apiñamiento dental (77,86%). Conclusión: La deglución atípica fue el hábito oral más frecuente. Dentro de las alteraciones dentoalveolares encontramos desviación de línea media, apiñamiento dental y maloclusión clase I. Según el orden de frecuencia.
