The Colombian Magdalena River poison-dart frog Dendrobates truncatus is an endemic species. Little is known about the biology and ecology of the species. This paper describes aspects of the management and reproductive biology of D. truncatus as it was maintained at Cali Zoo. From 2003 to 2004, we recorded 205 clutches and different embryonic and larval stages were monitored, allowing us to establish the breeding season, sizes and time of development. We also describe the care and management of eggs, tadpoles, immature and mature individuals, as well as pigmentation patterns in the late stages of larval development.
