Wing microsculpturing has been described in the genus Amitermes. It occurs on the upper and lower wing surfaces and is composed of a single row of small (3-5 pm long), thorny papillae at the anterior margin and numerous micrasters allover the wing membrane (size 6-8 JiD1 x 5-71lffi; density 9200-9600/mm 1 ) . The micrasters are with 5-8 arms and of the complex type (types V-X). No arrowheads are present The position of Amitermes is discussed in the general scheme of termite microsculpturing, Comparison is also made with the condition in the Zoraptera, Embioptera and the Blattoidea,
Three species of termites (all of the family Termitidae), as new pests of eucalyptus in India, are reported. They were found attacking young Eucalyptus hybrid plantations in the Alwarmalai Reserved Forest of the Ulundurpet Forest Range, South Arcot District, Tamil Nadu: Trinervitermes biformis (Wasmann) (Syn. T. heimi [Wasmann]) (Subfamily Nasutitermitinae), Odontotermes redemanni (Wasmann) and O. bellahunisensis Holmgren and Holmgren (Subfamily Macrotermitinae). They girdle roots and lower parts of stem; the attacked plants dry up and die. Two mound‐building termites also occur in the plantations: Odontotermes anamallensis Holmgren and Holmgren which builds a broad‐based, subconical, earthen mound (illustrated here for the first time) and O. obesus (Rambur) which builds a dome‐shaped earthen mound. Control measures for both the eucalyptus‐damaging termites and the mound‐building ones are discussed.
