Tobacco consumption has an influence on the oral mucosa and causes oral malignancy in the due time. On assessing nicotine dependence, appropriate counselling can be given to prevent further progression of the habit. Aim of this study was to assess the nicotine dependence levels among patients with potentially malignant disorders such as leukoplakia and Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF) using fagerstrom test. This study included 140 patients from October 2019 to January 2020 in a dental hospital. Variables such as age, gender, tobacco form and lesion were assessed. Descriptive and chi square statistics were performed. Out of 140 patients, higher prevalence with tobacco usage were among 41-50 years (40%), 94.29% were males and 5.71% were females, 16.43% had low dependency, 52.86% had medium dependency and 30.71% had high dependency. Association between   age; nicotine dependency in patients with and without lesion p=0.000(p<0.05), statistically significant. Association between gender and patients with and without lesions p=0.151(p>0.05), statistically not significant. Within the limitations of the present study, males had higher prevalence of tobacco use among 41-50 years. Patients with potentially malignant disorders and smokers without lesion had medium dependence while smokeless tobacco users without lesion had a high dependence.

Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic condition which produces severe pain involving a part of the face. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of trigeminal neuralgia among dental patients visiting a dental institution. This retrospective study included patients who were diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia from July 2019 to March 2020 in a dental hospital. The digital case records of all patients were retrieved and details were recorded, which included the clinical, radiographic examination and treatment undergone by the patients. Variables such as age, gender, site of involvement were also retrieved from the case records. Data were tabulated and statistically analysed using IBM SPSS version 23.0 and results obtained. P value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. In the present study, out of 28 patients, males (53.6%) were more affected by trigeminal neuralgia than females (46.4%) with a higher prevalence on the right side (57.1%). Quadrant I (25%) and combination of quadrant II and quadrant III (25%) were most commonly involved by this condition. No statistically significant association was found between age and quadrant affected; gender and quadrant affected. (p>0.05). It can be concluded from our study that males were more affected with trigeminal neuralgia, the majority involving the right side of the face and seen commonly among the elderly age group. Dentists must be aware of the clinical features of trigeminal neuralgia for accurate diagnosis and early initiation of prompt treatment to avoid untoward complications.

Most of the time non-vital teeth are associated with various pathologies. The early intervention would save the teeth from its loss. Depending on the etiology and the duration, the pathology differs among the non-vital teeth. The aim of this study was to evaluate non-vital teeth with various endodontic pathologies. This retrospective study included patients who were diagnosed with non-vital teeth from July 2019 to March 2020 in a dental hospital. The case records of all patients were retrieved which included the clinical , radiographic examination and treatment done for the patients. Variables such as age, gender, any associated endodontic pathologies were retrieved from the case sheets. Data was tabulated and was subjected to statistical package IBM SPSS version 20.0.Around 80,000 patients were reviewed and 238 patients met the inclusion criteria.Out of 238 patients, 71.8% were males and 28.2% were females.On analysing the prevalence of non vital teeth among different age groups, 21-30 years age group (32.8%) were more affected. On comparing the non vital teeth with endodontic pathology ,non-vital teeth without periapical lesion (74.4%) were found to be in a higher prevalence. Among non-vital teeth with endodontic pathology, periapical abscess (14.3%) was found to have higher prevalence followed by periapical cyst (2.9%) and calcified canal (2.9%).On analysing the prevalence of non vital teeth among gender , males (71.8%) were more affected. No statistically significant association was found between age, gender and non vital teeth. (p>0.05).Within the limitation of the study, the prevalence of non-vital teeth without periapical lesion were found to be higher. Among non-vital teeth with endodontic pathology, the most common pathology was chronic periapical abscess.Males were more affected with non vital teeth and had higher prevalence among the 21-30 years age group.

A research on the type-A personality behaviour among the individuals of saveetha dental college. Aim: To analyse the type-A personality behaviour among the individuals of saveetha dental college. Objective: To assess the type-A personality behavioural among the individuals in saveetha dental college using Jenkins activity survey. Background: Type A and type B behaviours were first described by two cardiologists Friedman and Roseman who were studying heart disease. Briefly, type A is a behavioural and personality pattern characterised by the following 1) competitive achievement orientation, goal striving without a sense of accomplishment and joy. 2) time urgency, impatience, over scheduling, and 3) anger and hostility which may or may not expressed. In contrast, type B is non competitive, enjoys the process as much as the goal, is patient, and has little anger and hostility. Reason: The reason was to analyse the personalities of individuals and develop personality in positive manner.
