FROM 500 TO 200% AND STRAIN RATES FROM 1 0 4 TO 10-9/~ &mac~ Using screwdriven machines w i t h exceptionally reliable data-acquisition and confining-pressure system and an unintermptible power-supply, we have tested 10 by 20-cm specimens of Avery Island rocksalt at constant strain-rateS down to lO-g/s. At strains between 0.05 and 0.10, steady-state flow is achieved at about 6.8 MPa at 200OC and lO-7/s and 9.4 MPa at 100°C and lo-%. At lO-g/s a strain of only 0.01 has been reached so far after 107s; tests at 50' and lW0C are to continue for another 250 days unless steady-state flow is observed sooner.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
