Comparing these three search terms to "hysterectomy" and "myomectomy" shows a much higher search interest in both "hysterectomy" and "myomectomy" with 70 and 6 searches for "hysterectomy" and "myomectomy" for every search of "uterine artery embolization" "uterine fibroid embolization" or "ufe." Search for the term "uterine fibroids" shows a stable search interest over the past 15 years. Searches related to the term "uterine fibroids" show that "uterine fibroid causes" as the #1 related query. "Hysterectomy" was the #3 related query "ablation" and "uterine ablation" as the #12 and #13 related queries while "uterine fibroid embolization" was the #17 related query. Conclusions: Big data search tools such as Google Trends may be useful to gauge the level of interest in interventional radiology and its procedures. Searches of various synonyms of "uterine fibroid embolization" shows "ufe" to the most popular search term. Searches of any synonym pales in comparison to "hysterectomy" and "myomectomy." Assessing the public's interest of various disease processes and procedures may be beneficial in formulating marketing plans for the society and individual practices.
