Recent experimental work on the electronic properties of liquid metals has shown how these properties change a t the melting point and vary with temperature in the liquid state. These results are summarized and discussed. T h e difficulty of explaining the phenomena by methods which are orthodox in solid state physics is pointed out and some simple models suited to liquids are described and compared. hlore fundamental attempts to obtain the density of states and mean free path from a direct approach to Schrodinger's equation are outlined. It is emphasized that many unsolved problems remain.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
