This paper deals with the analysis of the inter-area mode phenomenon in stressed power systems following large disturbances. It is shown that the intm-area mode phenomenon could occur as a result of a nonlinear interaction of the natural modes of oscillation in the system. A technique to determine the interaction is developed and the machines participating in the interaction are identifd. A procedure to predict the onset of the inter-area mode is presented. The analysis and the procedure developed are tested on two systems: a SO-generator system and a 126-generator system.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
