This study examines the competitiveness of Turkey's iron and steel industry from 2000 to 2019 based on the nine three-digit sub-sectors and reveals the product mapping of this industry. In the study, the revealed comparative advantage index (RCA), the revealed symmetric comparative advantage index (RSCA), and the trade balance index (TBI) were used, and the product mapping method developed by Tri Widodo was employed. As its most significant contribution to the literature, this study analyzes the product mapping of Turkey's iron and steel industry. It has been observed that three of the nine sub-sectors (
This study aims to examine the competitiveness of the Turkish textile and clothing sector. The competitiveness of the Turkish textile and clothing sector was examined, using Balassa's RCA Index and Vollrath's measures of competitiveness. This study on the competitiveness of the Turkish textile and clothing sector finds that the Turkish textile and clothing sector is competitive in world markets. However, in recent years, it was seen that there had been a considerable decline in the competitiveness of clothing industry. In order to maintain the competitiveness of the Turkish textile and clothing sector it is necessary to focus on the production of high value-added goods and the policies should be developed to strengthen the sector's research and development capacity.
Intra-industry trade gained considerable importance in international economics literature in recent years. Today almost one forth of world trade has intra-industry trade nature, which is defined as trade within industries rather than between industries. In other words, intra-industry trade is the simultaneous export and import of goods within the same industry. The most widely used measure of intra-industry trade is Grubel-Lloyd (GL)Index. GL Index measures the extent of intra-industry trade in a particular industry or an economy as a whole. According to GL Index, an index of IIT in trade of industry i goods with country j is computed as : IIT = [ 1 - ( Xij - Mij ) / (Xij + Mij) ] * 100 Grubel-Lloyd Index for an economy, as a whole, is an arithmetic average of the index for individual sectors weighted by their share in the economy’s total trade. IIT = [ 1 - (Σ ( Xij - Mij ) / Σ (Xij + Mij) ] * 100 ( where X ij and M ij are home country’s exports of industry i goods to country j and imports of industry i goods from country j, respectively.) Grubel-Lloyd Index ranges from 0 to 100 and can be expressed as a percentage of the total trade. Higher index values are associated with greater intra-industry trade as a proportion of total trade. The aim of this study is to examine the share of intra-industry trade in Turkey’s foreign trade with Central Asian Turkic Republics within the period 1992 to present by using . For this purpose this paper calculates Grubel-Lloyd index by using the data SITC Rev.3 at 3 digit.
Interindustry analysis that researches alterations in qualitative and quantitative structures of industrial activity is being used as an analytical tool in the matter of monitoring development performance of economy. The aim of this study is to calculate backward linkages by Leontief approach and forward linkages by Ghosh approach based on 2002 and 2012 input output tables and analyse evolution in key sectors. Linkage findings reflecting the 'feedback' and 'stimulant' power of industries are utilized as indicators for optimization in allocation of resources and taking investment decisions. Findings of the study reveal that "manufacture of chemicals, chemical products", "manufacture of fabricated metal products", "recycling" and "research and development" industries have lost the property of being key industry in relevant period. However only "basic metals" became as a key industry thereby reducing its import dependency. By the results of this study, it is expected to contribute to policymakers in developing policy.
2019 yılında İhracat Ana Planı'nda Türkiye'nin orta ileri ve ileri teknolojili ürünler ihracatının artırılması öncelikli hedeflerden biri olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışmanın ana motivasyon kaynağı olan bu ifadeden hareketle 2000 sonrası dönemde Türkiye imalat sanayi ihracatının rekabet gücündeki değişiminin Türk imalat sanayinin teknolojik yapısı üzerinden analiz edilmesi hedeflenmiştir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Türkiye ihracatının teknolojik yapısına ilişkin dış ticaret verileri 2000-2018 dönemi için UNCOMTRADE veri tabanından derlenmiş ve söz konusu veriler SITC Rev 2. teknolojik sınıflandırması referans alınarak düşük, orta ve ileri teknolojili ürünler olarak gruplandırılmıştır. Düşük, orta ve ileri teknolojili ürünlerde Türk imalat sanayinin rekabet gücü Balassa'nın açıklanmış mukayeseli üstünlükler endeksi yardımıyla analiz edilmiştir.
