A green modification has been introduced to the synthesis of benzothiazoles by using polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) for successive steps of benzotriazole ring cleavage and cyclization, an approach which was previously developed in our lab by the use of n -Bu 3 SnH. The use of the silicone industry byproduct PMHS makes this protocol a cost-effective and nontoxic one and thus may be considered for the industrial importance.

In the present study, Paenibacillus dendritiformis, Trichoderma harzianum, and Trichoderma asperellum were appraised as potential biocontrol agents that induce resistance in chilli (Capsicum annuum) against the devastating pathogen Colletotrichum truncatum, which causes anthracnose. Bright-field and scanning electron micrographs showed the hyphal degradation, lysis, and abnormal swelling in C. truncatum against P. dendritiformis in a dual plate assay. Under greenhouse conditions, chilli seeds pretreated with P. dendritiformis, T. asperellum, T. harzianum, and T. asperellum + T. harzianum by soil soak method inflicted an induced systemic resistance (ISR) in chilli against a C. truncatum-challenged condition. In chilli, the disease index percentage was significantly reduced in the T. asperellum + T. harzianum-treated seeds, followed by the T. harzianum-, T. asperellum-, and P. dendritiformis-treated seeds as compared to the untreated and challenged, respectively. Chilli seeds were primed with T. asperellum + T. harzianum (78.67%), which revealed maximum disease protection under the challenged condition, followed by T. harzianum (70%), T. asperellum (64%), and P. dendritiformis (56%) as compared to untreated and C. truncatum-challenged (6%) condition served as control. The seeds that were pretreated with biocontrol agents (BCAs) inflicted ISR against C. truncatum by enhancing the activity of defence-related enzymes (superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POX), polyphenol oxidase (PPO), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL)), accumulating phenolic compounds, and increasing the relative chlorophyll content in chilli. Nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) and 3,3′-Diaminobenzidine (DAB) stains were used to detect the accumulation of superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide that appeared nearby the fungal infection sites. The accumulation of reactive oxygen species (O2− and H2O2) in the pathogen-inoculated leaves was a maximum of 48 hpi, followed by P. dendritiformis, T. asperellum, T. harzianum, and T. asperellum + T. harzianum treated tissue upon C. truncatum-challenged condition as compared to the control. Overall, our results showed the potential of T. harzianum, T. asperellum, and P. dendritiformis as biocontrol agents that prevent infection by C. truncatum and inflict an induced systemic resistance in chilli by enhancing the biosynthesis of phenolic compounds, defence and antioxidative enzymes, and reducing the lesion development and reactive oxygen species accumulation. This is the first report of induced systemic resistance against anthracnose in chilli obtained by application of T. harzianum, T. asperellum and P. dendritiformis, through seed priming.

Postemergence damping‐off of chilli caused by Pythium spp. is a common and serious problem in large chilli growing areas of India under the moist conditions that generally prevails during the sowing period. Therefore, in order to better understand this disease, an isolate belonging to the genus Pythium (Pythiales) was isolated from the infected chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) plant root parts collected from the fields of Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Based on the congruence of cultural, morphological, cardinal growth rate and the sequence data analysis, the isolate was identified as Pythium graminicola. The molecular phylogenetic analysis based on ITS‐rDNA sequences clustered the isolate with representative sequences for P. graminicola from GenBank in the Pythium clade. The isolate carbon utilization profiles were characterized using Biolog FF MicroPlate method. The results revealed that the isolate used a wide range of carbon sources, mainly carbohydrates, but also amino acids, suggesting the use of metabolic routes that include glycolysis/gluconeogenesis. Moreover, an in vitro colony growth inhibition assay was performed to determine the influence of chemical (fungicides) and biological (bacteria and fungi) antagonists over the pathogen using the poison plate and dual culture method, respectively. Overall, the results revealed that the presence of aggressive broad range biocontrol agents can be used as an effective environmentally friendly approach for management and control of damping‐off in production systems. The antagonist can serve as a bio‐efficient and eco‐friendly alternative to synthetic fungicides for the development of an effective integrated pest management (IPM) system and obtaining higher yields.

The glycosyl 1,2,3-triazoles are expediently accessible from readily available sugar-derived glycosyl azide by utilizing modular CuAAC "Click Chemistry", and the resulting glycohybrid skeleton possesses efficient metal-coordinating centers that support a wide range of metal-mediated efficient catalysis in various imperative organic transformations. Here, we designed and developed pyridyl glycosyl triazoles by employing the CuAAC reaction of D-glucose-derived glycosyl azides and alkynyl pyridines. These pyridyl glycosyl triazoles with Cu(I) salt were explored as an efficient catalyst to successfully assemble 2-amino-3-substituted and 3-substituted quinazolinones by the domino/tandem cross-coupling reaction of various N-substituted o-halobenzamides with cyanamide and formamide, respectively. The devised protocol has some notable features, including biocompatibility, low cost, easily accessible starting materials for the glycosyl ligands, high yield, broad spectrum, low catalytic loading, and mild reaction conditions.

D-Glucosamine, a natural, inexpensive, and conveniently accessible sugar, has been explored as an efficient ligand for the Cu(I)-catalyzed regioand stereoselective synthesis of an array of (Z)-3-methyleneisoindoline-1-ones and (E)-N-aryl-4H-thiochromen-4-imines in good-to-excellent yield in a tandem fashion via the reaction of 2-halobenzamide and 2-halobenzothioamide with terminal alkynes, respectively. The water solubility and biocompatible nature of the ligand offer easy separation of the catalytic system toward the aqueous phase as well as change in the reaction path in terms of the product also demonstrated the variation of the reaction temperature. The domino reaction proceeds by the Sonogashira and Ullmann type cross-coupling reaction, followed by Cu(I)promoted additive cyclization of heteroatom to the triple bond. In addition, Dglucosamine causes successful Glaser−Hay coupling of terminal alkynes under Cu catalysis to produce a high yield of respective 1,3-diynes.

The utility and advantages of benzotriazole methodology have been described for the practical synthesis of benzothiazoles. The two‐step synthetic procedure includes nucleophilic acyl substitution followed by benzotriazole ring cleavage under the free radical condition and subsequent cyclization via elimination of molecular nitrogen (N2). This protocol requires cheap and readily available reagents, and moreover easy to handle, thus can be used to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students about the importance of benzotriazole moiety in organic synthesis, ring cleavage chemistry, cyclization reactions, and use of industrial waste in free radical reactions. Students can also learn some important and common techniques useful in organic chemistry such as monitoring of organic reaction using thin‐layer chromatography and UV, microwave (MW) technique for the synthesis, and column chromatography for the product isolation and structure determination through NMR, MS, and IR spectral analysis of the pure compounds.

The good leaving tendency of the benzotriazole moiety has been exploited for the synthesis of symmetric, unsymmetric, N-acyl, and cyclic ureas in good yields from N-acylbenzotriazoles by treating the latter with various amines in the presence of TMSN3/Et3N in a sealed tube. The salient features of the devised protocol includes the high-yield, mild, metal-free, one-pot reaction conditions, and short reaction time. Furthermore, in many cases, no column chromatography is required for the purification.
