The aim of the study is to conduct bibliometrical analysis of the published articles on environmental education. With this aim, 3979 articles published between 1973 and 2019 were reached as a result of scanning Scopus database and they were bibliometrically analyzed so that research tendencies in the last 46 years were determined. The database was scanned using "environment/environmental education" keywords and results regarding the annual distributions of the articles; the journals and the authors with the highest number of related articles; h-index scores of the authors; research collaboration networks; the articles that were cited at the highest rates; the average annual citation scores; the citation burst scores of the authors; the results for word cloud and the conceptual mapping patterns obtained were analyzed. The findings reveal that the issue started to gain popularity among scientific researchers after 2008. The journal publishing the highest number of articles on the topic is found to be Environmental Education Research while the researchers with the highest number of published articles belong to Kopnina, H., Bogner, F. X., and Thiengkamol, N. The researchers from Netherlands, Mexico and Israel have the highest rates of research collaborations. The related articles are found to focus mostly on sustainability education, climate change, teacher education, student's or teacher's attitudes toward environment, the level of knowledge and consciousness on environment and environmental issues. The most frequently used concept in the keywords sections of published articles is determined to be "environmental education". The findings of the study are meant to guide researchers planning to conduct further research on the issue.
With the arrival of the new millennium (particularly the late 2000s and the early 2010s), data science, which had been lacking interest and investment due to insufficient infrastructure, saw significant improvements in fields such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. 1,2 Developments in computer hardware, increased use and dependence on inte-grated circuits, high-performance data processing, cluster calculation, parallel data processing and cloud data processing emerged in the late 20 th century and the early 21 st century. These developments made it possible to analyze data sets, which are increasingly complex by nature and consist of hundreds of gigabytes and terabytes. 3,4
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between STEM attitudes of middle-school students and their reflective thinking skills on problem-solving. For this aim, a survey was administered to a total of 576 students, including between 5-8 grades. In this study, the "STEM Attitude Scale" and the "Reflective Thinking Skill on Problem Solving Scale" were used as the data collection tools. The results showed that significant differences were found for the students' reflective thinking skills on problem-solving in terms of gender, questioning, and reasoning dimensions in favor of female students. Also, significant differences among grade-levels were found in the questioning and evaluation dimensions of the reflective thinking skill on the problem-solving scale. Besides, significant differences were found in the engineering and technology dimensions in favor of female students and also in the mathematics and 21st-century skills dimensions in terms of grade-levels. Based on the findings obtained from this study, implications for teaching are made.
Araştırma kapsamında STEM eğitimine yönelik belirlenen kısıtlamalar sonucu ortaya çıkan makalelerin analizi yapılmıştır. Toplamda 3362 makaleye ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmacıların amacı bağlamında yapılan kısıtlamalar sonucunda 975 makale üzerinden analiz gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada R-Studio programı kullanılarak bibliyometrik bir analiz yapılmıştır. 2004-2021 yılları arasında Web of Science veri tabanında yayımlanmış STEM eğitimi makaleleri kullanılmıştır. Alana yönelik makalelere, dergilere, anahtar kelimelere, kelime yapılarına, yazarlara, atıf patlama değerlerine, tematik yapılara ve iş birliği ağlarına ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda konu alanının popülerliğinin devam ettiği, uluslararası alanda iş birliğine önem verildiği ve araştırılması gereken farklı konu başlıklarının olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Özellikle ülkemiz araştırmacılarının konu alanın farklı noktalarına odaklanması ve iş birliğine açık çalışmalara yönelmesi önerilmektedir.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
